I spent a good deal of my day doing grief counseling with students in Buffalo. Even though we are very much removed geographically from NYC, I think everyone I talked to today felt some type of tie to someone there. As martial artists we sometimes like to belive we can defend ourselves in any circumstances. Let this serve as a grim reminder we are all to human. My thoughts go out to everyone who knew someone .... Respects. Paul O'Grady __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I had no problem understanding the intent of the article on Religion, it is part of an ongoing chronicle of the PR that is being posted. I have enjoyed all the posts as it has added to my knowledge and understanding. Why are people so damned fast to become offended? If the events in the USA today point out nothing else it is that life is too short and precious to go around all the time looking for something to get pissed off about. I hope the e mail was a joke because for the life of me I can't figure out why it was on the Digest." I don't think Ray meant it as a joke at all or an offense to the native peoples of the world. I think to try to suppress this historical document because it might be perceived as "offensive" to some people is to avoid lessons offered by history. My own perception of this particular passage was that Ray put it in specifically to show the patent bias in the historical accounts of Magellan in the Philippines. The dual statements " History is written by the victors" and "Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it" apply heavily here. In America there has been an active purging of non PC accounts of recent history, particularly and most appropriately today, in not trying to offend the Japanese when we remember Pearl Harbor day. The same will happen in thirty years when accounts of the Trade center destruction will be re-writen for political expediency. Political expediency is why 90% of us use Japanese electronics and 50% of us drive German cars. One news report has the hijackers taking over the planes with knives and box cutters, which I am sure will be examined indeatil on the digest. - - Tom Meadows - ------------------------------ From: GHSoto@aol.com Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 19:54:39 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #399 Dear Mr Terrry what was the point of putting the "religion" article on your digest? you can e mail me privately if you like. ghsoto ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 18:33:53 PDT Subject: eskrima: Reading the lines, instead of between them > Dear Mr Terrry > > what was the point of putting the "religion" article on your digest? Organization send their prayers and deepest sympathies to the families affected by today's tragedies here on the east coast and then globally. We have Friends, Family and Students in that area. We still have no clue of their status. For others of you that are in the same place, again our thoughts are with you and them.. The Effects of What happened today will not be over for sometime, I pray that humanity learns something positive from this whole experience too. Instead of the overwhelming fear I personally have right now, that only negative, will follow from it. I have watched and listened to many comments today nationally from Americans. In addition, I shudder because most are so bottled up in the small world they live in that they have no real clue about how things REALLY are other then what the press and governments feed them. The questions I faced today were very different then the ones I saw being asked on TV, my questions, no doubts, are based on different realties because I have seen much that actually goes on globally above what we feed our nation and the world in the press. I have deep sorrow for the ones that died and my friends and students I cannot find, and may be lost to this tragedy. I bow deeply to the ones on the plane that stopped the terrorists from getting plane 3 to the Philadelphia city center. Their acts of heroism and fighting the group no doubts saved thousands and possibly more then that in lives by their efforts. Overall Though, I sit here questioning the 2 possibilities of how this actually happened by Either The 1) Overwhelming stupidly, lack of awareness and lack of security that allowed this to happen. Or 2) The possible huge issues and participation of others that had to take place to be able to do this with the security in place and awareness present, that this all had larger ties and plants inside and set up for sometime. I.e. sometime, this entire day did not just happen with a few days planning or weeks or possibly even months. Personally I lean towards # 2 because, well I've seen more of the realties and have seen much in the aviation field-and military filed that most never see or understand. We cannot have it both ways, most of what happens in reality, most do not understand or see, and about 70 % of our nation walks about blindly to the realties. Most here on the digest I would hope understand what I mean by this, most of you here are traveled and have seen things at least enough to know that its not always the way its portrayed to the American people or the global press.
