Certainly there are people out there to stupid and irresponsible to breathe, but what about it. I don't know about you but it seems every time I drive through heavy traffic I meet several people that, in my opinion are too dumb to drive, what should we do make everyone take a cab? If so you must have never ridden with some of the cabbies I have, lol. Because of the stupid litigation we have endured and the fact that some of the people walking around have escaped the laws of natural selection, we have become a society that wants to protect everyone from everything. Have you looked at a pr. of boxing gloves lately? They have a warning label so that some yahoo won't be surprised that boxing is a contact sport! As if someone that dumb would read the label! The idea that taking weapons away will make anyone safer is ridiculous. When I teach a self defense class I usually start out with asking how many women came armed today. Then when they all usually say "not me" I ask a few to come up and empty their purse out, they are amazed at the items of destruction they carry everyday. As Tuhon Bill said in his letter, and as I remarked in an earlier post, weapons have been prohibited in correctional facilities for as long as they have been around, yet the amount of armed violence in these places is legend. There is a saying that an armed man (woman) is a citizen, and unarmed man (woman) is a subject. One might add that they are the subject of whoever is armed. Gordon died in 1984. It is quite famous and has been copied a lot, and I do not know if any Canadian newspapers have run it again, or if it is just being passed around again. It is a good piece though. I liken it to a lecture I once heard while training at Gunsite on the conditions of mental awareness... White--totally oblivious Yellow--general relaxed awareness Orange--possible threat identified, focused awareness Red--serious threat positively identified, taking steps to deal with it Black--Lethal assault clearly in progress Living in condition white is not good. In yellow you notice the clouds in the sky, the birds singing in the trees, the wind in your hair, and the person walking up behind you. Personally, I'd rather have all the law abiding people around me 'carrying' and me living in condition yellow. But that is just me... The one or two special details Bram >shows on the tapes isn't >worth the price. CU Michael, I have to disagree with you! The Gunting is a different type of instrument with several areas for impact contact and locking that other folding knives simply can not duplicate. You are quite welcome to hold your own opinion, but I believe that you are misinforming Brian and others. The Gunting is not simply another folding knife. The "ramp" and the "horn" on the opposite side of the ramp are not availible on other folding knives. The slope of the backstap is different, more rounded than most other folding knives and the 2.875" inch blade also gives the Gunting a different feel that most other folding blades. Thevideo series helps to orient the user to the those features. The "kinetic opening" feature is not obvious when a person first picks up the Guntinng. And I would say that learning the use that feature is not an easy or intuitive thing, without at least video #1. It is the knife its self and not the gunting maotion that takes some getting use to when one first begins to work with it. The videos help to give a solid orientation. I would suggest that there are more than just "one or two special details" on the tapes. Therefore I would disagree with your statements As I wrote earlier: >I have not seen the full set, but did see Volume 1. It is good >and it helps to demonstrate how the knife/trainer, can be used. I also wote that I was impressed by Guro Frank and the things that Gunting allows me to do, when I add my ju-jitsu and chin-na background to what Guro Frank is teaching. He does not present the program as "this is the only way"! He shows you how he employs the knife and he has others demonstrating how they use the same tool... there are individual differences and that is what makes the seminars and the tapes worthwhile purchases.
