In watching a replay on ESPNC, for the umpteenth time, of the 1964 boxing match between Sonny Liston and (then) Cassius Clay, the fight commentators called Ali's boxing style awkward and him an awkward fighter. Interesting in that what we might now term poetry in motion, then appeared awkward to some experts. Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com >> Hi Ray, Also interesting is the fact that Ali was once vilified as the epitome of evil in this country, and now is remembered as one of our most beloved athletes and personalities. Nothing about Ali changed over the years, just the level of respect he had then and now as a man who was willing to voice his opinion and speak out against discrimination regardless of the consequences. As a fighter, he will never be equaled; he was a true innovator. As a civil rights figure, he was perhaps the bravest; he had the most to lose, but it did not deter him from speaking out. I would have to agree with Brandon. Dr. Gyi is one to go see if you get the chance. I had the pleasure of training with him in Vegas last year. the man knows his stuff and actually helped me bring my stick sparring up to a whole new level. on the up and up...has anyone else had a chance to train with Tuhon Chris Sayoc? I just got back from a seminar this weekend with him and it was excellent. the R&D (research and development) in his system of teaching is great. he really helps you find your own answers. on top of that the system is very different from what I think most are used to. excellent bladed art that is at the top of my list. thanks to Guro Inosanto and Guro Balicki for highly recommending me to go train with him.
