On top of this I was recently not allowed to carry on an 'Impact Kerambit' (AWESOME!!!!), probably because I told them it was for deep muscle massage, but they noticed the word 'impact'. Hi Sam, my kubotan was taken off me several years ago in the uk domestic flights. At the time I pulled out the plug I had for my mobile phone charger I informed the person that I could inflict more damage with the trident plug. Deaf ears though although my girlfriend who works in airport security found it very amusing as the supervisor was a little deflated after our verbal skirmish. The problem I had with my kubotan was that - apart from it being an excellent addition to my key ring that stopped me locking myself out of the car as it always brushed against my knee as I got out - it was too cumbersome to use in emergency. I always had it in my pocket when working security and if it needed to be pulled out it would get snagged in the pocket and as such became a non weapon in its application and leave me floundering at the wrong moment. I accept with forewarning that it can be an effective tool but in the reaction phase it was cumbersome. I couldn't really keep it in a better drawing position as the fight may occur within arms length or after a short sprint. It had to be secure so as not to fall out - especially in front of any police - or be taken off me in a fight by the opponent. The pocket became the only suitable place for it which meant that first strike might occur while im struggling to get it out. Now, having said this, I accept that as it was a key holder as well that the kubotan had acquired a different value. Had it just remained a kubotan on its own I could have found different ways to holster it but would have left myself open to legal implications. It currently sits in the bottom of the cupboard waiting for the next fishing trip where it has an effectiveness depending on the luck of the cast ; ). I will now go and consider why so many baseball bats get sold in the UK when I never ever see anyone play the game over here. Greetings to all, I just want to thank everyone for there input on my intial questions and concerns involving the palm stick and its orgins, use, and applications to real life situations. Keep them coming!! On a much more somber note, I was speaking with a gentleman who is a practioner in the martial arts, not much older than me. He's middle eastern in origin (judging by his name) and is very heavily involved in the FMA's since his youth. Anyhow, I was just told by him that he received a letter from the State that we live in and the State wants him to register is hand and feet as lethal weapons!! As soon as I heard that, I was completely shocked!!! To my knowledge, this gentleman has never had any altercations or problems with the law whatsoever!! (maybe a couple of speeding tickets!) I spoke to my instructor about it and he has been training and teaching for almost 20 years and he has never had to register anything with anyone, EVER!! I mean, how can the State or the government for that matter regulate something like that, I mean common, there are people out there carrying guns and knives!! I've heard rumors of such stuff back in the late 80's where you had to 'register' yourself with your local police department, but I always thought that was just rumor and such. Has anyone else ever been requested (or forced) to register your appendages as 'lethal' weapons? Do you have to seek legal consultation for a matter such as this?? waltyr v. __________________________________________________ FREE voicemail, email, and fax...all in one place. As many of you know, the Gatherings were held over the course of more than 10 years in Hermosa Beach. Things change and the past year we have been looking for a private property location so as to transcend the limitations of a public place. With the shift in energies due to The War, it feels most fortuitous that we have found a good place with the right energy-the RAW Gym in El Segundo CA-that is a bit more off the radar screen than a public park. (To defray the costs of renting RAW for the day, there will be a donation at the door of $7.) Those of you flying in but not familiar with Los Angeles will be glad to know that El Segundo borders LAX airport on the south-so logistics should be a snap. Those of you who like staying on the beach in Hermosa Beach at the Sea Sprite can do so, it is but 6 miles to the south-- but this option will probably require a car. For those looking to stay as close to the RAW Gym and the airport as possible, (this option does not require a car) we already have up on the website some hotel contact info and will shortly have some more. The Magic Words: The MAGIC WORDS: "No judges, no referees, no trophies. One rule only: Be Friends at the end of the day. This means our goal is that no one spends the night in the hospital. Our goal is that everyone leaves with the IQ with which they came. No suing no one for no reason for nothing no how no way! Real Contact Stickfighting is Dangerous and only you are responsible for you. Protect yourself at all times. All copyright belongs to Dog Brothers Inc. CA law applies." As always, NO VIDEO PLEASE. As always, you may take photographs for personal, non-commercial use PROVIDED you give us a complete set of the ones you take. Thanks to the increasing numbers of you who actually remember and bother to do this! It is very much appreciated! Also, please note that the "no suing no one for no reason etc." language applies to those of you in the audience too. If a stick or a fight comes careening your way-get out of the way! FIGHTERS MUST PRE-REGISTER, even if they have fought before. This will be ruthlessly enforced! Cindy will be attending her niece's wedding on the day of the Gathering and will not be there to help me and I cannot deal with paperwork and running the Gathering at the same time. Get in touch with us for info either through the website or call Vice President in Charge of Reality Cindy at 310-540-6853. Remember that you may fight with weapons other than a stick if you can find someone willing to go against you. Knife fights will allow for aluminum training blades if both fighters are willing. - ----------- Concerning the current state of affairs: Section 311 of US Code Title 10, entitled, "Militia: composition and classes" in its entirety reads as follows: (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard. (b) The classes of the militia are - (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia. In the days ahead, the flying fickle finger of fate may reach out and touch any one of us without warning. A Dog Brother Gathering is a place that "We the Self-Organizing Militia" can hone our warrior skills and spirit.
