A bit overdue but thats my fault since my recent schedule has been hectic. I found out about these Sayoc seminars through this mailing list and fortunately for me there was one that coincided with my last New York trip. The close range blade work they specialize in is great and it complements the stick work that I learned from the Pedoy and the Inosantos blend schools in Hawaii. Very applicable and relevant especially since the seminar was held several days after the 9/11 attacks. The airport lockdown limited the number of out-of-town participants. I was disappointed for those who missed out but it was a great chance to benefit from a smaller class size. There was a lot of material and I could tell that we only scratched the surface. I'm hoping to progress more into the system curriculum although there are no Sayoc schools or training groups in Hawaii. Guro Jeff is a friendly and very knowledgeable teacher. He was helpful with my frequent e-mail questions which helped because I haven't gone to martial arts seminars before. His students were cool too and they were helpful with the drills Join 18 million Eudora users by signing up for a free Eudora Web-Mail account at http://www.eudoramail.com ------------------------------ From: Tom Meadows Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 21:25:22 -0800 Subject: eskrima: Chris Clarke RE: "Steve, I trained for a while w/ Chris Clarke @ NW Kali in Federal Way Wa, just south of Seattle. When I moved out to the Midwest I believed they were going to open another facility in the North of Seattle. Chris is young and dynamic, he trained under Danny Inosanto and others and is very knowledgable. Training is Kali, Muay Thai, etc. Sam Beckett" I met Chris Clarke back in in 1988 and he impressed me then. When I saw him two weeks ago at an Inosanto Instructor's seminar I was impressed with his commitment to maintaining his skill level. I heartily recommend him to anyone interested in training in the Pacific Northwest. I remembered my history and remembered what its actually like for a civialian living with war and terrorism and what a militia is actually used for in such situations. I have seen and lived with many of these realities. So my perspective might be slightly different then others. Militias & Concerning the current state of affairs: Introspective of NJ The current state of affairs here seems to be different then in California right now. Within a 2 hour and 20 min drive or 2 hours by the crow from the WTC attacks. The threat here to the local people from terrorism is more prevalent it seems. In addition, the terror struck here for most i.e. the average American" is very apparent based on their actions. 4 deaths of anthrax within a 60 mile radius of where I am brings more forms of panic and terror into there lives, are mail is sorted at the main location the attacks are taking place. It took 9 days for the mail we sent within NJ to get to its destination for one of our recent out going mailings. I only get half my mail now; my PO box went from 26 bucks every 6 months to 44 dollars every six. I am told that a first class stamp will be up to 65 cents by Christmas. All our incoming flights from here and all over the east coast have air marshals on the flights baby-sitting passengers. i am told by local agancys it will take at least a year to train everyone on airport staffing to be up the job they face now. Airports have the National Guard hanging out. All flights here were ordered to fly low, we are patrolled by air flight all day and night off our coast, its been a very interesting air show and sound show at all hours of the day and night. Our school children here when taking normal routine walking field trips, i.e. say to the local park are police escorted, our police departments and local forces are stretched thin to the bone. Instead of working to stop crime on the streets, they are working double shifts 4 cars and four bikes to escort 40 school children on a 12-block walk to the local park. As I am stuck in traffic, watching this scene today, I think about the stupidly of doing such a thing and how in realty it makes these children a huge target. Traffic stopped no one able to move, cars beeping, over populated area with too many police officers doing the job, they are over worked, and working double shits, most of them are hugely under trained and un-prepared terrorist acts. Based on all the variables, if a attack took place during all this, the thought of the pandemonium that would actually take place makes my skin crawl. There are hire cases of Domestic violence over the past 2 months and the children are feeling the stress of the deal. Crime rates are higher, thousands of phony bombing threats take place each week here now. Those are the Current State of affairs. So I wonder wile we are stretching things this thin where a militia would possibly be ordered and used based on the way the US government works once you do have a militia set up. The U.S. Government I believe has full power to order and comand any militias set up by citizens of the united states of America that qualify to be in one and as stated in the below section 311. Militias would be ordered To do set details, to replace and fill the slots that our core trained personal would not be able to fill as there requirements would be needed in more important areas for the fight We need brave mail sorters We need escorts for our children so that our police forces can get back to work We need baby sitters on the airlines so that are air Marshals can go back to work We need guards for our luggage at our airports so our guard can guard the boarders. That is now of course, Things would change greatly if there is a ground war here on U.S. soil, things would be more demanding, we would need community policing, volunteer firefighters, escorts for our children, the list of where the U.S. government Would use a militia and there duties might be very different then expected. Ms. J. ************** Concerning the current state of affairs: Section 311 of US Code Title 10, entitled, "Militia: composition and classes" in its entirety reads as follows: (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard. (b) The classes of the militia are - (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia. In the days ahead, the flying fickle finger of fate may reach out and touch any one of us without warning. ********************* ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 8:01:16 PST Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V8 #495 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY (top line, left justified) of a "plain text" e-mail addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
