"Walang >interesado" they responded. "No interest." So, why isn't arnis better >promoted or more popular in its own home? Wonderful post and analysis of the situation. Please keep us informed. I am sure this is of interest to all on the list. Thank you. My understanding from when I was there to train was that due to a "colonial mentality" there is a bias against the indigenous arts. This bias reportedly is in favor of anything foreign as being better. Other than those I met through training the filipinos I met invariably wondered why I would come to study Kali, when there are good Tae Kwon Do schools. I was amazed by what treasures were being missed. My 2 pesos. Brad ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 14:24:11 PST Subject: eskrima: list archives Just fyi... I've removed old digest issues v03.n* and v04.n* from the searchable archives. The info was mostly outdated and worthless. Volumes/years v05 thru v08 are still online and easily searchable from our website, http://martialartsresource.com. Others have not, their email comes in as rich text, i.e. with HTML attached. Since I'm not an AOLer I can't help much. Can anyone provide directions as to what settings to use or how to make AOL 7 send plain text? Thanks. They are poorly equiped for protracted land combat. For the most part, they are no more than bullies suited to pushing around the Afgani people. Note video or picture shots. They have no load carrying equipment, water containers, or clothing suitable for even the weather they are experiencing. War is very different from terrrorism. ------------------------------ From: "johnaleen" Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 13:41:27 -0500 Subject: eskrima: Re: Quote: Pedro Reyes 24-Apr-99. Quote: "Pedro Reyes 24-Apr-99. " If you are an arnisador, you begin by imitating a teacher. Then you find that the only way you can master the techniques is to make them your own, adapting them to your own build, temperament, and reflexes. Now go back and forth between those two states, the conditioned, and the unconditioned consciousness, until you realize that your self has always been and is always free. Then shout in exultant freedom. The martial artist who is Buddhist awakens the non-attached heart; the Taoist, the harmonious heart. The arnisador enjoys the free, creative unconditioned heart. " ***************** today wile working on some text for a solo training manual, i re-read the above quote and decided to share it here on the digest now, this quote from Mr. Reyes will be included in the book. i have no clue if any of you have ever read the full piece he did attached to this quote, regardless, it was the quote that made such an impact on me when i first read it sometime back and why i saved it. the impact basically came in the form of validation of how i feel and see things with the learning process part of the FMA. so i am posting it to share with the rest of the digest members...
