To blend or not? Those are tough ones. I would respect your opinion either way, but I think that there may be more than one right answer. Sawadee T2, Coming from the camp I have been fortunate to find myself cross training is part and parcel of growth for all the reasons people have said recently. Jack of all trades but master of none is the risk and so I ensure that the students at AMAG have a kickboxing foundation. Kickboxing mainly because that's where I came from. But if one doesn't know how to punch or kick properly they will never appreciate the diversity of all the arts. Knowing that I had that hard earned Thai kick was always the solid foundation that allowed me to 'not have to fight'. I expect it is feasible for someone to approach it from a different angle, like a wrestler or of course an eskrimador. The beauty of the FMA is that while it has treasures in its own right it has helped me become a better boxer, better kickboxer, better trapper, better grappler. Its attributes definitely saved me from getting hit while working on the front end of security jobs. So the participants of the Aberdeen Martial Arts Group get a solid grounding in the boxing and kicking aspects of the arts to support their growth in the other areas. The aim is to become competent in all areas to support future growth while being durable in the real world. A small group in the PI have taken to leaving astonshingly foul messages and generally abusing the board. Up till a few months ago it was a great forum and clearinghouse for contacting Doce Pares guys. The main url is www.docepares.com. But take a look at this message to get the flavor, and to see just how bad these people get: http://www.docepares.com/messages/641.html There are dozens of similar messages. I hope they figure out how to block these guys, because it used to be a great board. I would advise against posting on the board because you do not want these guys to have your e-mail address. Ms J the opening should be followed by a feint or attack in practice however in real deal defending ones life open and use are the important parts. however should someone jam my opening by closing distance trapping ect I can follow with a different one Pete Sampogna ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 07 Dec 2001 14:45:38 PST Subject: eskrima: Mailman ? A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand dune, "One American Marine is better than ten Taliban". The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence. The voice then calls out "One American Marine is better than one hundred Taliban". Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gunfight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence. The voice calls out again "One American Marine is better than one thousand Taliban". The enraged Taliban Commander musters one thousand fighters and sends then across the dune. Cannon, rocket and machine gun fire rings out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence. Eventually one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, it's a trap. There's actually two of them!
