I have been in contact with Pekiti Tirsia's Grand Tuhon Leo T Gaje and he has agreed in principle to come to Canada in the spring of 2002 to conduct a few seminars for me. This would be around the beginning of June. No precise dates have been set, but if there is an interest out there please let me know. I want to be able to accomidate everyone since he has not been to America since 1988. The basic plan would consist of one weekend seminar, possibly more, and a week long training camp. It would be held at my school in Montreal, Canada. By way of introduction, I am the senior Pekiti guy in Canada and have been doing it since 1981. I also hold a full Instructorship in FMA from Guro Inosanto. I only write this to let you know that I am not a neophite with too much time on my hands. Hope to hear from you. Of course I would like to add to these words of wisdom from the Book of Rock. :-) Before going further, be warned that I'm plugging my wife's business "Pre-Paid Legal". (PPL) That said, before getting involved with it, she asked me what I thought of it and I looked into it and encouraged her to go into it. So, self-interested as the following may be, it is also sincere. I have it for me, and for Dog Brothers Inc. Martial Arts and have used this service twice with good result. The problem with having your own lawyer is that they can be very expensive. As the story goes, the guy calls up a lawyer and says "I have two questions for you, but only $500. Can you help me out?" and the lawyer replies "Sure! What's the other question?". The idea is to see having legal protection as a form of insurance, just like car insurance, home insurance, medical insurance etc. You may never need it big, but if you do its a life saver. Or you may need protection from the fender benders of life-- sundry little and not so little expenses that often are part of life. PPL costs either $16 a month or $26 a month-- the veritable pennies a day. Specifically: 1) Preventative Legal Services: a)Unlimited phone consultations for personal or business questions. b) Letter/phone call plus two business letters or calls per year-- For example you have someone who needs the attitude adjustment of receiving a letter from your attorney and voila! No $150-$200 hour consultation fee, no additional charge for writing the letter, your $16 or $26 a month covers it. c) Legal document review: For example, as Rock mentions above, a lease should be reviewed. d) A Will: unless you aren't going to die, this is a good idea to save your loved ones a lot of grief and have your assets go to them and not the IRS and the lawyers 2) Motor Vehicle Legal Services a) Representation for moving violations...in any state -- That's right, the lawyer goes to court for you and you don't even have to be there. b) Representation for certain motor vehicle related criminal charges You even have a card you can carry in your wallet so if the police treat you inappropropriately on a stop you can call in on your cell phone and perhaps get a lawyer on line to discuss it right there with the LEO. Imagine the surprise! Very popular with minorities tired of being stopped for being minorities. 3) Trial Defense Services: Your provider attorney will assist in the defense of civil suits and job-related criminal charges. Up to 75 hours of assistance the first membership year, which includes 57.5 hours of trial time and 17.5 hours of pre-trial time. These hours increase over the years so that by the fifth membership year you get a total of 335 total hours. 4) IRS Audit Legal Services: Up to 50 hours of professional services from your provider attorney including 3.5 hours of pre-trial time 5) Other Legal Services: Services not covered above are available at a 25% discount from the provider attorney's standard rate. If you don't have a will, if you have ever received an unfair credit reporting, if you have ever received a traffic ticket, purchased a home, signed a contract you regretted, leased anything (car, apartment, retail space for a school, etc) had child payment issues, tried to return a defective product, lost a security deposit, been audited by the IRS, been sued, been in a divorce or separation, every purchased a new or used car, etc, etc, etc, then this insurance may be a huge saver for you when the chips hit the fan. I've given the info to the best of my understanding, I think its a damn good idea but call my wife Cindy Denny at 310-540-6853 or e-mail her at Prettykitty@dogbrothers.com for the full story.
