No comments from the peanut gallery please about the "wimpy foam weapons" and lack of head contact. :) We don't claim to gain higher consciousness through harder contact. (apologies to the Dog Brothers for that one ;) ________________________________________________________________________ Foam Weapon Sparring Tournament (LARP Challenge) Sunday, January 13th, 2002 Start time: 10AM CASH Prizes to Division/Event Champions! Directions to the tournament location are available here: http://www.guardup.com/directions.htm Sparring Rules: 1. A single elimination match shall last a total of two minutes running time, unless a competitor earns enough points to be declared the winner before the two minutes are up. Running time means that the clock continues to run during point calls, etc. unless the referee calls for time out (due to injury, equipment, etc). 2. All techniques that score will be awarded one point. All penalty points will be one point. The competitor who earns three points up to five points will be declared the winner. (3-0, 4-1, 5-2 are all winning scores). A 4-4 tie will be a next point wins situation. 3. Scoring Points are awarded by a majority of judges. 4. Non-Target Areas: Head, neck, fingers and groin (all other body shots are scoring). 5. Contact: The strike must be sufficient to cause the weapon to flex, however, excessive contact may be grounds for disqualification. 6. No body to body contact is allowed. 7. Two penalties (ex. leaving the ring, excessive contact, etc.) will result in a point for the other competitor. 8. Weaponry: We will provide ALL competition weapons to insure safety standards. We use Action Flex (tm) weaponry which we have found to be the safest weaponry available, not only in construction, but also in impact distribution. We welcome anyone to stop by our facility beforehand to test the weaponry themselves. 9. Excessive contact, though largely a judgment call, will not be tolerated and may result in a disqualification. 10. Unsportsman-like conduct will result in immediate disqualification and/or expulsion from the tournament.
