People who have studied Serak under Paul, Victor, or Stevan Plinck are universally clear about the absence of Serak in what Joe presents. My question and one of the responses to it appeared on this list. Mike Janich has never been to a Serak class (or I'm sure he would have cited in his letter to IKF) and is not qualified to render a judgment as to Joe's concepts being drawn from Serak. Had they called their tapes Tongkat Concepts, NOBODY would have had a problem with it. It amazes me how many tributaries people will wander down, while missing the whole point - Joe doesn't know Serak. In 18 months since the release of his first "Serak" tapes I have yet to hear from ANY credible teacher or student from ANY Serak line that endorses either his ranking or the material on his those tapes. Can anyone here name one? And yet they persist with a follow up release. This is not about martial arts skill, or innovation, or genius, or production values, or good looks. The people who would rather not address the question of the truth and the motives of their heroes will bring up anything to distract you. Hey, good Silat is about distraction and redirection. It just doesn't work as well on internet digests because people have the luxury of thoughtful reflection, and then they're back here to drive home their point. And now for my disclosures - I am a direct student of Pak Victor's, spent some small time over a 2 year period with Joe and Addy and had a bunch of fun. I've been around some Tongkat but don't claim to know it at all, so don't look for my Tongkat Concepts tape any time soon. I did not aim my discussion of this topic to this list, Ray Terry did, which is OK. Addy is TOUGH, by the way. And she moves really well, and knows a whole lot of stuff. She's a great example that women can and should excel in martial arts. Joe is everywhere so you know all about him. Mike Janich is everywhere so you know all about him. They don't know Serak, that's all. Why is that so hard to accept?
