I've been around the block with it a couple times. The bad news is that it tends to linger, the good news is if you tough it out it usually passes. PF is caused when to fibrous connective tissue running along the bottom of the foot inflames. The bone above the inflamed area then develops spike like projections in response to the inflammation. If your first steps out of bed in the morning cause a lot of pain that then moderates during the day, chances are you have PF. PF tends to linger, but is treatable. Icing down my heel after training helped a lot. Stretches, particularly curling my toes around my shin (imagine trying to pick up a stick by curling your toes around it), flexing my foot back toward my shin, and similar sorts of standing stretches helped, too. I also started wearing shoes when training stand up stuff, particularly Muay Thai, to help prevent the initial injury to the fascia that leads to PF. Some folks swear that ortho heel inserts helped them, but the damn things never stayed put in my training or street shoes. Eating anti inflammitories (i.e. Advil) helps too. Worst case scenarios include steroid shots delivered to the affected area, which several folks have told me sucks worse than the pain inspiring the treatment. If nothing else works, they can go in a surgically remove the spurs, but plan on gimping around for a while. Needless to say, consult a doctor before embarking on a treatment plan base on an internet diagnosis. Hope this helps. No pain from pressure, just from stretching my toes to up my shin. Just gives me a sharp stabbing sensation in the rear of my heel. Strange... Have a foot doctor take a look, I went through years of pain like this (it only gets worse). It's the begining of heel spurs when the fascia on the bottom of the foot shrinks and pulls against the heel. The operation, if you need it, is microscopic. If it is your rear leg (I assume you are not a southpaw), have yourself checked out for sciatic nerve entrapment. Any back pains? It can, of course be any number of other things... I am at the point now where I can't wait to be out of pain, and to be able to train again without hobbling. I just started teaching a small class in my area, and the thought of getting back into class is really going a long way to keep my spirits up. My doc is very familiar with my Eskrima background, and assure me that I can return with very little limitation. I can't wait. The beginning of the inside sweep in Serrada is similar to the beginning of some Pekiti moves. The example I'm thinking of is the first move of the first of the first set of EyD contradas, called "check-jam-scissors" in your notes. I'm interested in your thoughts about pulling that movement off in light of the discussion that's been going on - in an "all out" situation. Also, we see that move more in the first set of EyD contradas and recontras than in the second set. Is the reason tied to the knife position in each set? Ray - I have recently experienced a similar problem, but it bothers me more in my heel. It hurts more when I flex the foot towards my shin, but it's not as painful as an achilles injury. I don't even know how I injured it. The way it was explained to me is that I didn't hurt my achilles, I hurt the ligaments that hold the heel bone in place and stabalize it. Unfortunately, the answer for this thing, as far as I was told, was just time and to make sure your shoes fit correctly. Not really. 6'1" and 195. > have u consult ur doctor? got ur rt heel x-rayed; ct scan? Not yet. This is a fairly new problem, seemed like it only started bothering me a week or so ago. Just trying to stretch out more and ask around wrt what might be going on. If it continues for another few days/weeks I'll probably go the above route. Thx to everyone for the feedback.
