Giving your body tissue a chance to recover from cold therapy is an important part of the treatment process. A recent study revealed that deep tissues become cooler after an icepack is removed. For best results, ice an injured area for no more than 10 to 15 minutes every two hours during the first two to three days after sustaining the injury. ---------------- Mitakuye Oyasin. This is the same thing that my chiro told me for my tendonitis. He said to ice it down for 15 min. and allow at least 2 hours before icing again. He had me do that 4 times a day for a week. It helped immensely but was still giving me problems so he hit it with ultrasound and that knocked it completely. Now when it starts to flare up I slap ice on it for 10-15 min. at a time (usually once or twice takes care of it now). He also gave me a tip on making a reusable cold compress for really cheap. Take a rag and pour rubbing alcohol on it. Wring it out just to the point that it's no longer dripping. Then put water on it until it is dripping. Then put it in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer. The alcohol prevents it from freezing solid and you end up with a malleable ice cold compress. When you're done with it, throw the rag in the wash. You can keep using it until the alcohol evaporates (ziplocks aren't air tight) to the point that it's too rigid. I don't know how to go about reaching him. Another guy is Lee Manibog. I see Lee only at tournaments. His last email he gave me doesn't work, so I don't know how to get in contact with him. I'll try to do some searching around for whoever is inquiring. Lee is involved with Prof. Ed Louis of Kajukenbo - maybe I can get some info there. Jane was one of the pioneer writers, one of the earliest women to publish articles about the martial arts, opening the door for many women writers to follow. Her legacy is an immense contribution to the field and her presence in our community will be sorely missed. For those of us who knew Jane, the loss is immeasurable. The leaders hope the deal will end three years of violence that has resulted in the deaths of 5,000 people and the displacement of half a million others. Apart from blind hope, there are few reasons to suggest peace will last in the highly volatile and poverty-wracked region. First of all, the fact that a minor traffic accident initially incited the intense violence indicates that it wouldn't take much to set off the explosive religious tensions again. And shortly after the clashes started, 3,000 members of the Muslim extremist group Laskar Jihad arrived on the island and will not likely leave soon, particularly because they were not invited to the latest round of peace talks. The militants, who vow to eliminate Christianity from the islands, could actively block any efforts toward ending the conflict. They are not the only possible impediments. The Front SIWA LIMA, the self-proclaimed international legal representative for the Moluccan people, rejected the peace accord as well. The propensity for military and police forces to take sides in the conflict will also help counter the success of the agreement. Lastly, Indonesian expert Dr. Damien Kingsbury said he doubted the sincerity of some of the delegates at the signing, since they were wearing Osama bin Laden t-shirts, Laksama.net reported Feb. 12. That would be an understatement at best. www.stratfor.com --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Old digest issues are available via ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
