Widely regarded by other masters as the best drummer in West Africa (which is saying a HELL of a lot) his stuff always gets the Silat class moving and much more rhythm aware. _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Jamie Hutchins To: "'eskrima@martialartsresource.net'" Date: Tue, 26 Mar 2002 10:39:08 -0000 Subject: [Eskrima] Booklets running out Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi, I was certainly interested to order these booklets but its an expensive business to organize international money orders. That man can really lay down the beats, and he is an outstanding teacher. On the way there my exhaust pipe fell off my car, so I abandoned it outside a tube station and made my way into London by tube. The area around Bob Breen's academy is very quiet on Sundays and as I approached i could hear the sound of drumming from a few blocks away. It was provided by the superb (eskrimador & drummer) Emanuel Hart, and continued throughout the weekend. It went to a fourth round, where Johnson took the decision. 4 Nick Sheppard v Nick Murray As the fighters enterred the ring this one looked like a total mismatch; Murray looked out of shape where Murray looked every inch the K1 style fighter. The first 30 seconds were a total onslaught from Murray, with Sheppard stumbling around desparately trying to defend himself, but he survived and took the fight back to Murray. Sheppard was a very difficult opponent who frequently had Murray on his back foot. This one went to 4 rounds as well and Murray took the decision. Semi Finals 1 Russell v Wyatt On paper these two were probably favourites to win so it seemed a pity that they should meet in the semi. After a good first round Russell's eye was bleeding and continued to do so throughout rnd2. His corner pulled him out at the end of the round. 2 Johnson v Murray The vastly experienced Johnson was looking a little sluggish and seemed to have spent much of his first fight throwing big bombs in an effort to end the fight quickly. He started his second fight in a similar way and found considerable success with the round kick and by the end of the round Murray (whose hands were very sharp) had taken a lot of punishment. Then in the middle of round 2 Johnson just seemed to keel over and was helped out of the ring with his leg splinted and what looked like a knee ligament rupture. Final Wyatt v Murray This was the first time Wyatt had faced anyone anywhere near his own height and it seemed to cause him problems. Murray's kicks seemed very ineffective and weak (not surprising given the treatment he had taken from Johnson) but his hands were sharp and he won a well deserved victory. On the undercard Chester based Thai Anek Cromsomboon took the decision over Simon Mangeolles. Frenchman Bakari Tounkara knocked Richard Smith down twice in the first round to make a short night of it. Peter Crooke v Sergei Karpin(Belarus) Perhaps the best fight of the night. Both fighters were very evenly matched, but by the start of round 4 I had the Belarussian slightly ahead when he hit Crooke with a lovely punch that put the Englishman down. Crooke stayed down and cameup on 10 and promptly hit Karpin with a sweet hook that put him down and seemingly out. I have no idea how he beat the count, but he did so, despite reeling around the ring, finally propping himself up on the ropes. He was saved by the bell and was clearly still suffering into round 5, he survived, but it had been enough to give Crooke the victory. But not before we were given an improptu demonstration of pressups and breakdancing by the fighters as they waited for the result !!! I am a full time student of his associate instructor, Guro Gilbert Lafantaisie and apprentice instructor Sensei Brent May at the Black Dragon martial art schools in Calgary. The Rutano system of Estokada Kali is based on nine angles of motion in all planes and ranges. Guro Dan is the real deal. He encourages us to leave our egos at the door an enjoy an open, bias free learning experience. He usually puts on a weekend seminar once a year in Calgary that is open to visiting martial artists. I will post information the next time an open seminar is announced.
