As a FMA& IMA "newbie" and old time handgunner (30 + years) it seems pretty simple when pared down to the bone- regularly practice with what you have, and MASTER IT! Its does no matter if the selected sidearm is a Ruger .22 pistol, or a S&W K frame revolver - precise placement is what neutralizes the threat. El Presidentes? Kewl! Do either of you remember what the other two "standard exercises" were? Demi-Presidente / Vice Presidente? The one with Three double taps - reload - "one each" head shot? Its even more fun when done from the "kneeling" surrender postion then 180 turn to draw & presentation on the targets. Now back to basic triangle stepping, and Jurus in my corner of the world......... Does anyone have a copy for sale or know where I might get a copy? I also have some friends who have been trying to locate copies of Robert Cato's book, "Moro Swords." Again does anyone know of a source for this book? Thanks. Take care, Rob. --__--__-- Message: 4 From: Ray Terry To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Sat, 13 Apr 2002 8:28:28 PDT Subject: [Eskrima] Books and pistols Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > I have been looking for the book, "Filipinos at War" by Carlos Quirino for > some time. Again does anyone know of a source for > this book? Rob, One place to check for used out-of-print books is http://bookfinder.com. I've been able to locate many highly collectable books to add to my library. But they usually aren't cheap. I've also asked Carlos' son Cecil about this book. Cecil has considered doing another print run, but as of last check, not yet. Not really that much $$ in it for him. On another topic, a few have contacted me asking how could I like the Glock given my love for the 1911. Well, imho out of the box the standard 1911 is ok, but something that many, including me, first take to a gunsmith for some work. Once tricked out they are tremendous. Now on the other hand the Glock is pretty much as good as it is going to get straight out of the box. People like Chuck Taylor have carried them for years, no gunsmithing, minimal cleaning, trying to make them fail by burying them in a mound for days/weeks and then digging them up for continued use. No problems, no jams, no failures. The only time a Glock has jammed or failed on me was when I was running some of my own cr*ppy reloads. So if you want a perfect pistol, get a 1911 and have a smithy work it over, or spend more and have it tricked out. If you want a reasonably priced highly reliable pistol, out of the box, a Glock does just fine. I like the fullsize .40 cal. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello, If somebody could indulge me, but my curiosity is killing me. What were the "ultimate 10 martial arts" listed by the Learning Channel. Also, if you can give a brief synopsis as to why they made those choices. I can't get TLC here in the Philippines and I'm curious. Thanks to anyone who can inform me.
