Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Kumusta Kayo, Well I did ask everyone for help because I was travelling to Manila to study Filipino, but if my graduation money goes far, and if my family gives/loans me some baratto (spending money) I'll go south too, that is besides my other intended trip to Ilokos. I plan to visit Cebu, Mactan, Bohol, and possibly Misamis Oriental in Mindanao to visit my family. Soooo . . .does anyone else have any other possible places I can visit in those places? I know that Doces Pares is in Cebu, so I can visit them too if someone can please give an address and directions. I'll probably end up kicking myself because I'll probably run out of money, and won't be able to buy any sticks, swords and stuff. But at least I can go and visit any schools, tournaments, or any FMA activities happening in the Visayas and Mindanao. One last thing - How hard is it bringing weapons into the states? I brought some krises, balisongs, and a barong back from Mindanao in 1997 in my luggage w/ no problem. How is it now? Pro-rata, (ie adjusted for % of the overall population and Filipinos are a substantial group here in CA) the group with the lowest level was the Filipinos-- by a very wide margin. Is there any real point in training to use Nunchaku apart from trying to look cool or wanting to be Bruce Lee? I don't know anyone that really uses them to be honest but as they seem to be included in some systems they must have some value. I know that on one of the Dog Bros tapes the chuks guy gets slaughtered so I'm guessing for practicality you wanna keep with the sticks but does chuk training develop other attributes such as speed and timing which transfer to other weapons? Perhaps the development of manipulation skills using chuks could have some benefit for close quarters fighting with sticks (i.e. transition behind back and from one hand to the other)? I'd be interested to hear you opinions even if it is just that they are good for developing large bruises on the rear of your own skull.
