Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I guess I may be slow, but I am not sure I understand the whole debate of paying for lessons. I also have fond memories of training in my instructors back yard, and the wonderful material that was passed to me in these lessons he did not charge me for. However, it did take a few years worth of regular class time (which I paid for) to gain this trust he placed in me. Why is it that the Martial Arts should be viewed any differently than any other profession? You pay a Doctor to examine you and give you his medical opinion or treatment. You pay a Lawyer for his advice/legal services. You pay an Athletic Coach/Personal trainer for sports/fitness guidance. You pay Tuition to a college for knowledge from the Professors. The list goes on and on.......... You are not just paying for these peoples time, you are also paying for their expertise in a specific area. Whether they charge you money, or take something in trade, you are getting their (hopefully) "expert" guidance. They set the price, you decide if the price is reasonable for the services they provide, if it isn't then don't train with them. This is America, and you have that right.
