Any attempts at getting the people officially invovled in WEKAF to keep us up to date with any and all events under the WEKAF banner have resulted in promises and very little else. I knew it was taking place sometime this year in London, but thats all we get! Anything you can pass on to us would be gratefully received! Excellent observation. Most people do not even know there was such a war ("insurrection" from the other point of view), with many acts of violence, bloodshed, and brutality (collateral damage) committed by both sides. In this regard, here is another of my HISTORICAL ANECDOTES. A long time ago, in the late 70's, a girl friend took me to Omaha, Nebraska for the first time to meet her parents and attend a cousin's wedding. Part of my city tour was a museum right in downtown Omaha. One wing of the museum was dedicated to the Philippine-American War. It seems that a contingent from Omaha, Nebraska fought in the Philippine-American war. They had huge portraits of individual soldiers, as well as actual pictures, descriptions and outcome of pitched battles, and a detailed list of soldiers (from the Omaha contingent) who lost their lives in these battles. It was a both a fascinating and weird feeling for me. As a student, I had read and seen pictures in history books of Filipino heroes (Aguinaldo, Luna, Malvar, etc.) fighting for independence against the Americans. Here in Omaha, it was the other side of the coin. American soldiers were fighting and dying on foreign soil, displaying acts of heroism against insurgents defying American might. I also like Leo Salinel's points about the differences between arnis, kali and eskrima in a previous post. I had similar viewpoints, but let us not start that thread again. I have heard Tom state that he emerged as co-champion. Best, Steve Lamade San Miguel Eskrima Stephen G.
