There were about 15 people left, and the man doused most of them with kerosene and kept flicking one of those bar-b-que starter wands at them, saying they were going to burn, had gasoline shirts on, etc. He ordered one of the patrons to bind their hands behind them with plastic handcuffs that he had brought along for the occasion. He was holding one of the patrons by her hair. At this point the two women attacked him from behind. One jumped on his back and the other tackled him around his legs. He managed to shoot one of the women in the shin during the fight. Immediately after the shot was fired, the police came in and one officer fired at the man, grazing his head and probably knocking him down. I think they all piled on at this point. The womens' actions demonstrate the point that a guest instructor made once, namely that in impossible situations all you can do is make the decision that, "If I die, I die here" - instead of trussed up so that so that some asshole can make the decision for you. I believe that the DP records show Yoling was president of Doce Pares from its founding up until his death. > Also in 1966, Angel Cabales, with the assistance of students Max > Sarmiento and Dentoy Revillar, opened the first "commercial" eskrima > academy in the United States in Stockton, California. Max was not a student of Angel's. He and Angel were co-instructors at the Stockton Academy. The early students that helped Angel were Mike Inay, Al Concepcion, Mary Tovar and Dentoy. But farily soon thereafter Dentoy left the Stockton area and taught up in, I believe, Sacramento. Jimmy Tacosa was also one of the early students at the Stockton Academy. More updates later...
