I have sanded down the "handle" end to take away the cubic or square feel as it is uncomfortable after you hit things with it. The swing and weight are really nice and as it is a funny sort of lamination, pretty darn near unbreakable so far. The size is good for cross checking and guarding or blocking, it is light enough for one handed swing, but I can easily get a very powerful dos manos strike out of it. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Manila Boys, I am very impress, with your "Tapang" to tell the true observation of yours about Pinoy Kids studying Martial Arts in PI. Especially there in Manila. The Stateside mentality, is always part of our culture since the beginning of the US colonization of the Island. I guess is harder for you to prove it that Pinoy Arts is have a lot to offer more than any martial arts in general. Wow, you hit it to the points, need a lot of guts to teach and turn around and tried to tell this "College Students" born in Manila check it out "another Pinoy" Martial Artis teaching Arnis, of even Kuntao, or Sikaran. They get the same result from them, to them this is "LOCAL" not Stateside meaning not as good as come from other country especially USA. Everything that US promoted, is amazingly accepted in PI not only in Manila, is nationally. Not only martial Arts almost anything, and everything. I was planning to give a big Demonstration in Manila next year, visit. I would like to bring the FMA in the hear of Manila. Its look like I am now ready to face my feers. I am hoping to give a Demo of our owned "Filipino Wrestling arts "Harimaw Buno". A writer from Malacanang want to Published my "Moro-moro Book" and my Hilot book, right now is being edit by my editor. I am ready again to face the the Philippine audiences. July of 2003. The only problem with it > is > when Seagal sticks > the knife in the top of TLJ's head!!!! Yeah, I forgot about that part! It was, however, a very cool knife fight scene. I don't recell seeing another knife fight scene in any other movie that rivals this one. I have seen a few unarmed fight scenes that I was really impressed with. I have enjoyed the Rhee brothers in the "Best of the Best" series. I have also enjoyed watching Mark Dacascos. The man just looks COOL! I haven't seen Ernie Reyes in any new movies lately but I think he is a great martial artist in addition to being a great martial arts actor. I saw this really great fight on Mortal Kombat 1 (I think) between Johnny Cage and the Scorpion. There was a sequence that was just straight out strike-block-strike-block for about 10-15 secs. It was really cool. > Considering some of the junk I've received from one > lurker on this digest, I > vote for keeping the headers anonymous. If you choose to > display contact > info, it's your own choice. > > Just my thought. I agree. Actually, we should all be able to freely give out our contact information on this forum because martial artists are generally more humble, respecful and restrained than the average American. However, there are some people out there that do not respect this sort of etiquette. Therefore we can't just give out our contact information. One thing I would like to say, however, is that our readershp in general is among the most humble, most freely giving, and open-minded group of people. I have been reading the list since it had only a hundred members ( I think) and have only seen a few incidences of severe disagreements On another note, has anyone ever attended a summer camp/seminar to gain an instructorship and kept going back yearly to renew? I am a very out-of-practice and not current FMA'er that used to be pretty active before I got this crazy job travelling every month. I want to gain an instructorship with a school not in my locality. My purpose is to teach my family. There are so many good schools to choose from, its difficult to even begin to choose. It is not as heavy as plastic stick with the same size, but it will last longer than normal ratten stick. Furthermore, in my personal opinion, students usually like to use ratten or hardwood stick, more than using plastic stick. Since ratten stick is one of the original weapon from the art, looks more "Classic" than using plastic sticks, and the hitting sound of a ratten sticks is quite different from plastic. gary Philippine Martial Art Federation (Hong Kong) www.arnis.com.hk --__--__-- Message: 8 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net (Eskrima) Date: Sun, 30 Jun 2002 12:11:57 -0700 (PDT) From: eskrima-admin@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] recent addition Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Just a recent addition that was made to the info new subscribers receive. Thought I'd pass it along to the general list. Please keep the seminar announcements/commercials to a minimum as well as a minimum length. Contribute, don't advertise. Unfortunately a very few people will only post something to the list when they want to push themselves or their product. Please limit the ads and commercials. It isn't a problem if someone that is a regular contributor also posts an occasional ad. Hopefully all are here to discuss and to share, not push their own product. Thanks for understanding...
