Hwang Kee was one of the early Kwan founders in Korea c.1945. His was the Moo Duk Kwan. Ray ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Forwarded message: It is with great sadness that I report that Grandmaster Hwang Kee passed away on the morning of July 13, 2002. His contributions to the Korean Martial Arts Community as well as the Tang Soo Do artform are legendary. Among his legacy can be counted the following: The founding of the Moo Duk Kwan style of Tang Soo Do, the introduction of the lateral use of the hips into Korean Karate, the creation of the Gicho series of hyungs, the creation of the Chil Sung series of hyungs, he creation of Yuk Rho series of hyungs, the creation of Hwa Sung Hyung and many other martial arts innovations. Because of his tremendous influence in the Tang Soo Do artform, we the members of Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan are especially saddened over his loss. Without KJN Hwang Kee's teachings which were received through his son SBN H. C. Hwang, SBN Robert Cheezic and SBN Robert E. Beaudoin, I would not have been able to create the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan art form. The loss of KJN Hwang Kee will have tremendous impact on the entire Korean martial arts community and will he will be dearly missed by all Tang Soo Do practitioners thoughout the world. On behalf of the entire Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Association, I offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, his students and followers where ever they might be. I pray that during this time we will all have the opportunity to reflect on just how the life work of KJN Hwang Kee has impacted each of our lives. With deep respect and sorrow, Charles Ferraro, President _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang --__--__-- Message: 4 To: Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 19:58:18 +0100 From: eskrima-admin@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] GM Danny Guba + Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi All, I had the pleasure of hosting Danny Guba for the first time in two years this past weekend, and as always he was a treat! We covered a lot of material and have begun to set in place the foundations for the expansion of Doce Pares (GB). Percival Pableo was to have partnered Danny, but due to visa problems he was unable to make it. Hopefully next time. Danny was accompanied by Jim Smith, 3rd Degree Black Belt, and winner of the 7th WEKAF World Full-Contact Stickfighting Championship at Cruiser Weight. At great guy, and a pleasure to train with. At the World Championship, Danny was presented with his 9th Degree Black Belt, and made upto Grand Master under Dionisio Canete. Congratulations Danny, you deserve it. Two of my students (and a local Wing Chun instructor) graded under Danny and all achieved their white belts. Congratulations to Peter Oxley, Peter Johnson and Paul Tennet. I was honoured to be presented with my Brown Belt grading at the end of the two days. Now that the problem limiting the growth of the DP (GB) has been eliminated, we can go on as see the organisation grow as it always should have. When searching back issues of the digest there are now two realms that you may search. The 'fma' realm consists of the old issues of the digest plus some other reference docs, e.g. the FMA FAQ. The 'newfma' realm consists only of digest issues from this year. So what does all this mean? If you go to the search page http://martialartsresource.com/filipino/search/search.cgi and do not make any changes to the defaults on that page, you will notice no diff. However if you choose to change the Search Index (realm) from "All" to either "fma" or "newfma" you will limit your search as described above. Any questions, let me know. Thanks.
