As always, I reserve the right to be wrong... > > Ray Terry > rterry@idiom.com Ray, the split happened much earlier, but was not actually a major thing when it happened. In the beginning, Diony was elected the head of Doce Pares mostly because Cacoy didn't actively say he wanted it. The fact that Diony is a lawyer also helped. At that time, there wasn't much going on internationally, nor was there a real cash flow from foreigners wanting to learn the various systems. As the Filipino Arts in general, and Doce Pares and WEKAF in particular began to grow and prosper, leadership became more important from a finacial point of view. The way things are now, with two competing but not competing groups with nearly the same name, is the generally accepted compromise that was worked out. > 1. Practicing the San Miguel Form, which takes 8-10 minutes to do at a > moderate pace,..... Stephen- I am curious about your version of the San Miguel form. The form is very short, and even doing it very slowly, couldn't take more than a minute, or even less. Has it been enhanced by Mr. Bisio to be more of a Chinese-style form? I have learned two versions of the form here in Cebu- the first from Urbano Borja, who was one of Momoy's stable of fighters in the late 50's and 60's, and the second from the son of Alberto Dacayana, Jhun Dacayana, who is still teaching it on a regular basis here. Alberto Dacayana is the head of the Mig-Sune-Do group here which is based on the San Miguel he learned from Momoy in the 50's. No criticism here, just curiosity Steve --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sun, 21 Jul 2002 10:19:40 EDT To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net From: eskrima-admin@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Pak Vic/Wild Bill Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Pak Vic, A very good thought. I agree completely as I can think of at least one example of things getting way out of hand. Emails are just a little too icy sometimes. Or is it perhaps on the web somewhere? Did Momoy create the form? Thanks!
