Now Victor has been training in the Garimot System for the last 15 months and is amazed with what he is learning now. The other day at Gat Puno's annual retreat he mentioned that Gat Puno Baet could make a fortune just teaching disarming because no one teaches what Gat Puno knows. I consider this a compliment because in Garimot we emphasize the art of hitting without being hit and consider disarms a secondary concern. It is apparent that my writing about Victor turned into a small plug for the Garimot System. So getting back to Victor, not only he is a First class guy, he is also a great boxing coach and muay thai trainer. The price for the camp will be $235 and it includes a red handle Spyderco Training Drone. If you already own or have access to a training drone the seminar cost is reduced to $110 for the instruction. You will need the training drone in order to maximize your training opportunities at this seminar. Please write me (Dr. Jerome Barber)for details about obtaining the Training Drone since an advance deposit of $100 will be necessary. We WILL NOT ALLOW anyone to workkout with a live blade of any type or make. Some information about the Gunting Knife and usage is availible on the web site: http://www.guntingseminars.com Of particular interest would be the topics "What is it?" and "Why the Drone?". Both were written by the Gunting Knife designer/developer, Master Bram Frank. The seminar is not system specific and therefore open to all stylists. An innovative and unique feature of the Gunting is that it was designed to used closed as an impact and locking tool, as well as opened with the blade availible for cutting. Group rates are availible upon request. Groups are defined for this seminar as consisting of 3 or more people. You can contact me at: escrima_kenpo@hotmail.com Jerome Barber, Ed.D. ****************************************************************** I can report that I have attended two seminars that were conducted by Dr. Barber, in which he made the transitions from empty hand to palm/pocket stick to kubaton to Gunting Folding Knife and each one was fasinating. So I am looking forward to a seminar devoted exclusively to the Gunting and conducted by the inventor of the tool. I also know that the knife is getting a greatd eal more atttention in Europe than here in the North Anerica. Several friends have reported that they have read articles in European Martial Arts and related magazines during the past two years that featured the Gunting. I also recall that there was an article last year in Tactical Knife Magazine that featured the Gunting. It was the first American publication that I came across that featured this unique folding knife, which has a kinetic opening application. Anyone who has easy access to Lockport, NY would do well to take advantage of this seminar opportunity, IMHO. Also adding that "Arnis should be taught in all city schools. And that at present interest in Arnis is not wide and that the art/sport is not even included in the annual Palarong Pambansa."    I hope there is more to come in this direction from Councilor Julio Logarta Jr. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. As is often told, people say that eskrima came from the spanish word meaning "skirmish". I am a Filipino but I speak Spanish also and I cannot think of a spanish word for skirmish that is close to eskrima. The spanish words for skirmish that comes to mind are "escaramuza" or "refriega". Both of them being far away from eskrima in sound. However, the spanish word "esgrima" (which means fencing) is the spanish word that I have always thought eskrima came from. Thank you. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues are available via ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
