Well, it is up at www.Atienzakali.com so stop by and check out the information. I also recommend visiting and training with the Atienza Kali practitioners if you have the chance! Great skill and good hearts!! I've been informed that the fearless Kajukenbo Grandmaster Emil Bautista and his equally fearless group of black belts (they're a tough group; Vallejo is a tough town) will be coming to check us out. That's great! Most of you probably know that Kajukenbo was developed in Hawaii (honed in the streets and bars over there, I've been told); and quickly achieved world-renown for its for its effective combination of karate, judo, and kenpo. It gets my adrenaline flowing when I imagine how much more formidable the Kajukenbo group would have been NOW, had they incorporated FMA and the native Hawaiian art of Lua into their arsenal THEN (when they were first establishing their art)! But FMA was still relatively unknown (or known but not popular) and Lua was still secretive. (I'm glad to hear that there's a Lua grandmaster in Southern California that has opened his art up to the general public. --This is all good stuff!) On another note: About a year or so ago, Elrik Jundis put out a call to all FMA groups in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area to come together for a "sharing of the arts". I publicly responded in the affirmative then (others may have responded privately to him --I don't know); but to my knowledge, it hasn't happened yet; so let this open invitation be a step toward Elrik's vision. Come; see what we have to offer: Solo Baston, Doble Baston, Espada y Daga, Daga, Daga sa Daga, Mano-Mano, Dumog, Dulo-Dulo, Dos Puntas, Tres Puntas, and Bankaw. (For Sibat (spear and shield), projectile weapons, and really big bastons, see Grandmaster Ramiro Estalilla in Fresno!). Elrik et al., if you're free this Sunday, come on over! For our detractors (although I don't think there are any left in Northern California), who may still insist that Kombatan is "just karate with sticks", "more packaging than packing", "not practical or effective", the time to prove your point of view is NOW, this Sunday, in person, NOT behind a keyboard (Oops! Such as I'm doing now! Guess I better log off.) We'll bang sticks if need be; then we'll break bread together. Don't forget, everyone is invited to stay for dinner afterwards; there will be no charge for this (the dinner)! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I just watched the movie "WINDTALKERS" last night and I felt it was kinda lame, not to disparage Native Americans though. I thought a more compelling story would have been had if they had only made a movie bio of the late GM Leovigildo M. Giron of Bahala Na (Giron Arnis) Escrima. It would IMO also be a good definitive FMA movie, where FMA would not be peripheral, but would actually play a tremendous role. It would not exactly be an FMA movie just like the Seagal movies were Aikido movies, but it is a great first step. Anyone here with contacts for Hollywood? I know a lot of you guys work with Hollywood industry, so why don't we have a go at it? The old man would be pleased and smile down on us from where he is right now. :) Of course, to be accurate, we'll need the Bahala Na guys especially GM Tony Somera to ensure quality and accuracy. ===== Earn $$ just by receiving and reading email! http://www.resource-a-day.net/member/index.cgi?Brandon96 Yahoo!
