Guro Santos demoed his Figure 8 Arnis and we also worked Inayan. A geat time! Ray ======================================================= Greetings All, During my last foray to SanJose/Santa Clara for an Ernie Reyes World Martial Arts blackbelt promo-extravaganza-full-of-hotair-demonstration-hype-bordering-on-cult-behavior-thing, I had the opportunity to watch a demo of CDT. The instructors came out wearing some fairly snazzy black shirts with embroidered CDT logo, black BDU's, and Black Combat Boots. Hey, don't get me wrong...they looked good. Some of the stuff they did was ok...basic HKD/JJ. The unarmed vs. unarmed control stuff is fairly simple, but most of it had the 'defender' turning his back on the attacker to execute a complex motor skill/aiki-type technique. The unarmed vs. armed is where I began to wince. If those instructors are teaching others how to defend against firearms using the methods they demonstrated, there will be some ER and funeral home visits for the CDT folks. I believe all the gun disarms I saw had the defender sweeping themselves and bystanders with the gun muzzle...sometimes more than once. The multi-attacker demo was especially nice. All the attackers waited their turn or waited until the previous attacker had been dealt with, which was very nice of them. Yah, I know they were just doing a demo...but I have seen many demo's that have showcased their wares in real-time and real-contact to demonstrate the real-effectiveness. It reminded me of the type of Aikido Magic techniques that only will work in the dojang. The flyer handed out at the demo features none other than Ernie himself, and some troubleing statements regarding legal justifiable force, and the "CDT is simply the most effective non-deadly, compliance, last resort weapon disarming and family protection system available in the world"...all for a pocket change price of 11-14 hours for $395.00....kinda reminds me of those MA magazine ads that train you to hit 25 times a second and learn from a TGT(Tibetan Gopher Throwing for you uninitiated) master from the boonies. I know that Reyes 'highly suggests/requires' his instructors and BB ranks to become certified in CDT instruction. I am not surprised to read the pyramid type stuff in the link that Ray posted...seems like par for the course in the ERWMA organization. I know some on this list have taken CDT courses...how about some insight to clear up any mis-information? Did you use simunitions guns during scenario situation training? Was there hostile non-compliant behavior from threats mimicking real life attacks? Were you taught what the courts deem justifiable force? Did they highlight any actual court cases/testimony involving CDT? Enquiring minds want to know....jeez, I feel like Bruce! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Anyone familar with Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais' (1904-1984) Feldenkrais Method? Given his background in Judo I'm just curious as to what, if any, application the method may have to martial arts instruction. "The Feldenkrais Method is a form of Somatic Education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. Through this Method, you can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement." Comments???
