Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Its been a while , hell I don't even know if I am posting the right way , since Ray went and modernized everything on me, I know Ray I 'v been hit a lot and it takes me a while to catch on :-) Any way Al's post was the first I read in a long time that I liked, it made lots of good sense. >From the magazine: >Jay writes "I mean no disrespect to anyone in particular, >but I for one do >not need any pretenders, self-anointed inheritors or self->serving successors >(be they loyalists or renegades or alphabet soup >coalitions), to fill the >void left by Remy's death. .......Remy's art will live and >flourish forever >through the hundreds of thousands of modern arnis I believe it will live , but I think its in real trouble, I don't mean to pick on Remy may he R.I.P but I sure hope that when he arrived in heaven, God fixed what ever made him do the crazy things he did with rank and acknowledgement and what ever else he did just to make people happy. Remys art is the way it is because he never wanted to hurt anyone so if you provided enough seminars for him and spent what seemed to be a great deal of time with him at the time he rewarded you by telling you, that you were his number one or his protégé or his best. And in his pursuit to make people happy he lost many guys that as both fighters and instructors far surpassed some Grandmaster with a WHOPPING 14 years in the art. AL it would blow your mind to know how many of these so called Masters in Modern Arnis that I remember testing for their green belts and brown belts, a few years latter I see them and they out rank me ( at the time a 4th degree now 5th degree ) with over 23 years in modern Arnis Remy use to live at my parents house 4 to six month out of the year from 82 to around 90, so I had an incredible amount of training with him, after 83 most of the time we did Moncol or Maranga's Balintawak. Which very few if any have really trained with him. And yet I claim to be no master or Gm or any such thing. And all this rank and stuff being thrown around in MA blows my mind. I know darn well this express elevator up the ranks would never fly with GM Gat, The late Angel Caballis, GT Gaji, myself, GM Bout, DBMA, or hardly anyone. Oh well I guess it is what it is. Your second point. >A champion boxer or stickfighter rarely makes it to the >top based on raw >talent. It's through the honing process of drills, forms etc. >that allows >the person to fight skillfully. And usually when one gets >real good fighting >doesn't one starts to look pretty? probably one of the truest statements ever posted here!!!! No bull!! As far as what training makes you what, its up to you, there is nothing wrong with being a great performer, or teacher and not a fighter, or maybe you just want basic self defense, which I think Modern arnis by the way is pretty hard to beat, for just basic self defense. To each his own, as long as you know where you stand in the realm of the arts. One of th best Tang Soo Do men I have ever met is GM Dale Douilard the first American to bring TSD to the U.S. he can't fight for S#*t but a very fine teacher. And finally a quote from the book of Rock- That seems to fit with your post. " If so many great masters fought to the death, how come there's so many great masters???" And Ray I too would like to know when GT Gaji started calling PT Kali, the guys I trained with called it Arnis and pronoused (sp) it "ARNEZ" Take care Rocky Founder Cuentada De Mano\ Chief instructor Anciongs Original Balintawak --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "mogs" To: Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 18:40:57 +0100 Subject: [Eskrima] Seminar Annoucment Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting this. Many thanks, Morgan --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Tom Meadows" To: Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 10:52:30 -0700 Organization: Simple Solutions Subject: [Eskrima] Doce Pares Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Greetings , For quite a few years now Doce Pares has been divided into two groups those of GM Cacoy and those of Diony Canete ( The lack of a title here is not disrespectful, it is simply Diony's personal wish to not be addresssed by a title). This is all quite public and they each have a different technical curriculum to pursue. Each has formed their own organizations and tournament groups for the promotion of their chosen area of technical expertise and education. Any other differences are a family matter and should be respected as such. I contacted Ewe Schwarz and he clarified that his letter on his website is a statement of his training in GM Cacoy's method. If you read it in that context it becomes a simple statement of association, and nothing more. He has a very nice website which explains his organizations and their intent, and can be easily contacted directly. I can see how this might have been confusing to someone new to Doce Pares, but I also felt that forwarding a portion of someone's website out of context could create problems within the two groups. Hope this helps, Tom Meadows --__--__-- Message: 4 From: Beungood@aol.com Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 15:05:50 EDT To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net In a message dated 8/16/02 1:33:17 PM Eastern Daylight Time, eskrima-request@martialartsresource.net writes: > De nada.
