It is interesting to note the in Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu there is a technique called Yama Arashi which translates to "Mountain Storm" in English. One feature of this technique is a leg reap using a back kick like motion. This seems a bit more than coincidental. One therefore wonders who got what from who. Okazaki is reported to have studied some eskrima (and indeed some sinawali type drills are part of the Dan Zan Ryu curiculum) so I wonder if this is where some cross pollenization took place. Bill Gebhardt was the head instructor and owner of the State College Martial Arts Academy in State College, Pennsylvania. Mr. Gebhardt's martial art training has spanned over 20 years. Starting in the martial arts as part of Kevin Seaman's private backyard group at age 15, he had diligently focused and developed himself into a professional in the fields of martial arts and business. He is Kevin Seaman's senior most student and holds a Full Instructor credential in both Jun Fan Gung Fu/JKD and the Filipino Martial Arts under Seaman. Bill Gebhardt received his instructor certification in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do in 1992 under Dan Inosanto, the man personally chosen by Bruce Lee to carry on the art and philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Bill also held an instructor credential in Filipino Martial Arts under Dan Inosanto, which he received in 1992 as well. Competitively, Bill has fought in full contact stickfighting matches on a regional, national and international level. He came back a World Champion for his division in full contact stickfighting at the World Championships in January 1992 held at the Aquino Memorial Stadium in Manila, Philippines. As a competitive coach and trainer he has trained dozens of fighters in amateur Thai Boxing, boxing, shootwrestling and contact stickfighting, acting as a guiding light for students and competitors of all ages. Bill Gebhardt is a certified instructor in Thai Boxing under Master Surachai Sirisute, President and founder of the Thai Boxing Association of the USA serving as the Pennsylvania State Representative for the TBA. A boxing coach and instructor, Bill was certified through USA Boxing, the nation's largest amateur governing body. In 1993 Bill Gebhardt was voted the State College Jaycee's Outstanding Fitness Leader of 1993-1994. His generosity was limitless in giving of his time and resources. He so kindly gave to children via alliances with his Academy and the Second Mile program, the local school district, and the general public. His influences through giving carried to literally hundreds who were fortunate enough to be affiliated with him, as students, friends and family. He was the proud father of a 8 year old son, Jordan, his most prized accomplishment to date. Bill was like a son to me, we will all miss him dearly, may his memory stay with us all. He was a great man. Please send any contributions in his memory to the "Bill Gebhardt Fund for Children" at P.O. Box 10629, State College, Pa 16804-0629 This will help perpetuate the work Bill has done into the future.
