Here is the URL for his balisong sheath page: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Cabin/7306/blades.html I was impressed with his work. Check him out. The context of this event is openess, generosity, play, and community. This event is for participants who want to see something new (even in things they think they already know) and are willing to try things out. This event is for practitioners who want their students and those they work out with to learn and grow as much as possible. This is an event for people want to play, sweat, and push their growth. My intention is to create an access to, an interest in, and an energy around the Northern California Filipino Martial Arts Scene and to reconnect us as a community. This event is open to practitioners, teachers, and individuals who are interested in participating in these arts for the first time. What this event is not: A place to show off, to prove one style better than another, to not participate, to talk about other instructors and systems in a way that dishonors them, to try to argue old political/personal issues. In organizing this even, the above concerns have come up with several instructors. I understand that these issues are still a part of the Filipino Martial Arts for some. Its just not part of what this event is about. The event will open with acknowledgements and an ice breaker. It will be an opportunity for folks to meet new people and create what they want to get out of the day. It will also give folks a sense of the talent, commitment, and interest that day. Then the first demo (All demo's should stay under 10" minutes) will lead into the first workshop. The day will follow this pattern. The last session will allow those who would like to try their hand at point and contineous padded stickfighting. Tentatively Scheduled to teach are: Maestro Sonny Umpad Corto Cadena Visayan Escrima Guro Mario Quiroz Sikamilion, Corto Cadena Visayan Escrima Master Darren Tibon Serrada Escrima, Angels Disciples Escrima Association Guro Elrik Jundis Kali Ilustrisimo-Doble Baston, School of Pilipino Mastery Arts Gura Michelle Bautista Kali, Kamatuuran School of Kali Val Tintianco-Cubales BJJ, Charles Gracie Academy Date and Time: Saturday, November 2, 2002 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM The event is tentatively scheduled to be held at: James Denman Middle School Gym 241 Oneida Ave, San Francisco, CA 94112 (Note: this is only 3 blocks from Balboa Bart Station. There is also street and lot parking) (* Venue confirmation is currently pending as of 9/24/02 and will be confirmed by 9/30/02) Cost: $10 Per Person Group Pre-Registration $15 Individual Pre-Registration $40 Registration at the Door There is still room for instructors and schools who would like to demo and/or teach a session. Please contact me if you have an instructor or system you want me to contact for this event. This is the first of an Annual event. All proceeds will be documented and used to develop future events and promote the Filipino Martial Arts Community of Northern California. Please RSVP.
