Do other styles of eskrima other than > Inayan include handgun and longgun retention in the teachings? Pekiti-Tirsia does. The curriculum teaches 1.) active use of handguns and longgun in different distances. 2.) how to recognise and exploit mistakes if other person is using weapon 3.) weapon retention methods (first: avoiding mistakes and second: solutions if mistake occured) Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje is teaching the materials to students that can actually apply and use the materials. It specifically an important part of the materials that are taught to the Recon Marines in the Philippines. Do other styles of eskrima other than Inayan include handgun and longgun retention in the teachings? Deputy Jim =========================================== Yes, Tenio Decuerdas Eskrima has handgun and long gun retention teachings within the system. Master Gonzalez would do gun and shotgun takeaways and then work the gun retention. It also has arresting techniques as well. At times during practice we would put on the utility belts with handcuffs and use different arresting techniques using one man and then having a two man team arresting one subject either standing or seated. Tenio Decuerdas uses many locking techniques. Grandmaster Gilbert Tenio was in the military and also taught people within the military as well. Bill), Not sure if I've mentioned this previously, but just to give credit where credit is due... Our Inayan handgun/weapon retention was greatly influenced by James Lindell's work. Lindell, recongnized as the Father of Handgun Retention as well as the developer of the Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint System (LVNR), is president of the National Law Enforcement Training Center. I'm sure you and the other guys back there are familar w/Lindell's excellent work and background.
