In Inayan Eskrima (within the ISI curriculum) it is taught and implemented in the later stages of Lock and Block. It helps develop the keen sense of sensitivity that Serrada already builds into the student - both in an attack and defense mode. -- Steve Klement Inayan Masirib Guro www.inayaneskrima.com klement@inayaneskrima.com Inayan Systems International > From: "Elrik Jundis" > Date: Tue, 22 Oct 2002 14:12:49 -0700 > Subject: [Eskrima] Picking & Enganyo > > .....cut........ > In the Angels Disciples curriculum these drills are taught at the > Advance > Level in Serrada, where the attacker learns to set up the defender for > counter attack. The practice we were doing the other day was kind of similar to the gunting practice we do off cinco teros (i.e. ILK angles 1-5). Obviously its a bit different and requires some adaptation. So it went like this: Right leg round kick (head kick on the #1 angle) - parry/pass with left hand whilst dropping under & stepping out left female triangle, gunting into nerve cluster at side of knee (is it the peroneal or tibial nerve?). Left leg round kick (head kick on #2 angle) - pass with right hand whilst dropping under & stepping out on right female triangle, gunting into nerve cluster at side of knee. Right round kick (ribs level #3 angle) - pass & gunting Left round kick (rib level #4 angle) - pass& gunting Front kick/teep (left or right - #5 angle) - pass & gunting We had fun playing around with it and varying our defence against the kick. As Philipp mentioned you can secoh the instep whilst passing (sandwich hit), strike the calf muscle or any other part of the leg. You can vary the angle of the secoh. Other variations included overhooking and underhooking the leg with various destructions, scooping in and out. Good fun and it was an excellent way of getting through the concept of all attacks, whether with weapons, empty hands or legs, are just angles - your response is then reactive to this. There were a few faces in which you could see a light had just been switched on. As a low-level student myself I found this a really useful exercise. Is it called Abecedario? -----Original Message----- From: Philipp Hammer [mailto:phammer_de@yahoo.de] Sent: 24 October 2002 18:46 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: RE:[Eskrima] open hand defense against kicks Hi everybody, In a Seminar with Suro Inay, there was a defence against a roundhouse kick. Ellbow against the foot like secoh. The Target is not the shin. Oh, my english, I'm from germany. I mean between toes and shin. Step back or angle out. Parry the kick thru and do at the same time a limb destruction with the ellbow. Timing and distance are not easy. But it worked fine for me. Corky Pasquil (sp?) the maker of the Great Pinoy Boxing Era tape also made a tape with several fights from the 20's & 30's. I picked up a copy several years ago on Ebay and the seller turned out to be Corky. Do a google search on "Pinoy Boxing" and you will find other resources.
