I've been to seminars and meetings before and even when I went to the Philippines to study Eskrima, I heard westerners desparaging the people and the country, not alot, but enough to be heard. What Patrick said bothers us because of it's truth. Some people, a large number, wouldn't give a damn about the Philippines if it weren't for the art." Sadly Bart, you may be 100% correct and Patrick also. But the real truth is that for all the people out there who don't give a damn about the Philippines if it were not for the art are missing the boat. The true art of the Filipino Martial Arts can be found in the cultural dances, the plays, the farmers, the craftsmen, in the history books, etc. of the Philippines, the roots. Not strikes angles 1 to 12. Not disarms #1 to 12. Remove the roots and you will be mediocre, you will have a dead art. Embrace the roots and you will be exceptional. These are my thoughts. I don't want to bore everybody on this digest, so this will be the last time I write on this subject (for at least 2 months) regardless if I get flamed by one, two, ten or even 100 subscribers. I just have one question - Bart, are you one of those people who don't give a damn about the Philippines? You can answer me off list if you like. It is either all or nearly all reprinted from previous sources, a bunch of the authors have published in Journal of Asian Martial Arts for one.
