Over the last many months I've been working to create a new system of Eskrima, or at least my system of Eskrima. Sudlud Eskrima is based on, and is a combination of, Inayan Eskrima and Doce Pares as well as other martial arts experiences I've had over the last 35 years. "Sudlud" in Sudlud Eskrima and the Sudlud Eskrima Association (SEA) is taken from "The Sudlud", a mythical character well known to Inayans. Thats it... Just wanted to get the word out. It is my hope that this creation brings yet more smiles to my late instructor, Mike Inay. Yep. And my first one was rather early on for me. I was in high school and a friend and I (yes Rock, I had did have a friend in high school) would practice knife fighting. As we got better, or thought we were getting better, we began to do some of our practicing with live blades. You now probably know how this is going to end... :) We were doing blade against unarmed practice and I did a what I was a return-to-sender technique (but we didn't know that term yet). I remember looking at Bill, my friend, and saying, "You are mine now!". At that point we both relaxed a bit, but the knife didn't. My right index finger was just about cut off. Bill and I still laugh about it when we see each other every few years. The enlightenment for me was I didn't think I would get cut, yet I did get cut, when I got cut I couldn't believe I was cut, I couldn't believe how quickly it happened, and I couldn't believe how much a little inch or two long cut on a finger could bleed. Reflecting back now, not being mentally prepared for what could happen and did happen I probably suffered a bit of mild shock.
