Anyone with any more details. I never heard the cause of Edgar Sulite's passing. I'm not sure how old he was, but it sure seems like he went well before his time. Can someone explain the circumstances of his death? I apologize for the morbid question, but at the time his passing came as somewhat of a surprise to me and I never heard any of the details. _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net Copyright 1994-2003: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Stovall, Craig" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003 11:12:18 -0600 Subject: [Eskrima] Q's Question Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Dr. Fung wrote, <<>> My only "exposure" would be from back in the day when I was taught some of the lock flow series from Shooto. Of course, the lock flows as a training method were created by Sayama and are not a training method of Gotch per se, but I'm almost certain that the vast majority of the movements in the flows are from Gotch's curriculum. My greater exposure to grappling is through BJJ, but I'm currently on hiatus from that. I also have the 10 tape series put out by Tony Cecchine, but he has his detractors that claim he's not the real deal (Gotch being among them) and that much of what he shows is not "legitimate" Catch. It looks like good stuff to me, but I'm no expert on grappling much less Catch. <<>> According to Yuri Nakamura's Shooto training manual, Sayama added Sambo learned from Victor Koga, Muay Thai from Fujiwara, as well as some elements from Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. I think it would be interesting to see some of Matt Furey's videos since he started training with Gotch around 1999, and stayed with him for about 2 years. His stuff is a bit pricey for my tastes, so I guess I'm not THAT curious. Anyone else seen any of Furey's Catch videos, and can attest to how much of Gotch's "flavor" he captures? Oh, almost forgot. Assuming Mr. Denny has seen/done the Shooto at the Inosanto Academy, maybe he can compare and contrast that training with the BJJ of the Machados and others. That would be cool (albeit non-FMA related, LOL). The accent is on the second syllable. I hope that helps. GM Lema was a great man. Infact I had read one of his published books and studied it just last semester. When did GM Lema pass away? What caused his death?// He passed away on Sunday the 5th. of January, at about 11pm. He was cremated on the 9th, his ashes will brought to his brother who lives in the United States. He died of a hemmoraging gastro ulcer, doctors wanted to operate but given his age, they didn't. This what I heard at the wake, but given the state of 3rd. world medicine, you never can know. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful.
