Since then I have met at least one Western practitioner who kicks with his toes curled (like knuckles), the way that some old-time Okinawan teachers did. On a more serious note, one difference between Asians and Western practitioners, at least until recently, may have been the life-long habit of squatting or sitting on the floor as opposed sitting in a chair. This difference of habit (much more so than any innate racial difference) probably accounts for the greater flexibility in the ankles, hips, pelvis, and lower back that many Western practitioners never seem to be able to attain. But isn't that what Prof. Presas did? Create his art, a new art, under the new name of Modern Arnis.?.?. I was always aware that my size gave me some limitations. But you know what. THose limitations where just there for one thing. To break through those limitiations. I have gotten great reviews from professional dancers (no not that kind) complimenting me on my ease of movement and flexibility of my body. Now I think being a big man just makes things a little harder... But let's face it, we all at one point look silly during our forms!!! But yeah it sure does make class a lot more fun when you can get a few laughs in. But the clumsiness with a lot of hard work will be mastered. Let me see, following the British educational system (Sorry, I am not familiar with US system); Primary Education : 6 years Secondary Education : 5 Years Bachelor's Degree : 3 years Master's Degree : 2 years Doctorate Degree : 3 to 5 years Proffesorship : About 5 years teaching in a university and published enough original works to be accepted by a panel of experts as a proffesor. That means, to be a REAL qualified martial art proffesor, you have to spend a minimum of 25 years training regularly and have enough in-depth knowledge and experience to create new highly effective systems which is held in high regards by fellow GMs. Regards, S.
