Or perhaps focus this in a more constructive direction such as the technical blade aspects of Sayoc vs P-T vs DPF vs DPI vs KdM vs CQC vs Serak vs SME vs ABC vs XYZ. Ok? Perhaps one of the folks familar with both PT Knife and Sayoc would care to compare and contrast the two. That would be positive, imo. Thanks. I concur with James. Generally speaking, Pekiti Tirsia is an aggressive, in-fighting system. Footwork is also stressed insofar as it allows you to out-flank your opponent. In contrast, San Miguel Eskrima prefers power strikes with a longer weapon from the outside, maintains a conservative distance, and does not commit so readily. The differences are very evident when comparing Pekiti's espada y daga system to San Miguel's. A Pekiti fighter will close and cut his opponent to pieces with both espada y daga, all the while using his superior angling and footwork skills to work to the sides and back. He will also hook, clip, trap, and control his opponent's limbs with the puno of the espada and the daga (thereby cutting the blood vessels and tendons that run through the wrists, forearms, and elbows). Effective use of thrusts with both the espada and daga is also employed. In contrast, San Miguel will either chip away at the opponent's defenses from the outside, or else destroy a limb with a power stroke. In either case, the daga is generally employed at long range until the opponent can no longer defend himself, and then a thrust (or series of thrusts)is used as a kill-shot. Again, these are generalizations - both styles have an incredible depth and will give you options for handling just about anything that comes along. (Please note that my observations and also based upon my limited and basic experience of PT's espada y daga system, which I have just started learning. (For those interested, Tuhon Billy McGrath is teaching an excellent series of seminars in Pekiti Tirsia's espada y daga system in Fishkill, N.Y. (http://www.pekiti-tirsia.com/seminars.html)). Mr. Jones, You say: >I understand your position, because I have heard the same complaint before >from other instructors. Too many people wanted to claim a close association >with GM Presas and they actually diminished the skills of themselves and >others to lie a falsehood relationship. Besides, i have a feeling that i >can figure out the essence of the Crossada de Mano, for myself, based on >some older video of Professor and a couple of older instructors from the late 70's through the mid 80's. Well stated. If you have the felingyou can figure out the essence, believe me you can.  This is a point of self exploration that Remy Presas pushed others to do through teaching.  All for now. As athletes we demand alot from our bodies and really need to keep them aligned. A dysfunctional body is an injury just waiting to happen. Instead of just chasing symptoms, (something always hurts) the Egoscue Method identifies and solves the problem. The book "Pain Free" is an excellent place to start. Pete Egoscue does a call in radio show every Saturday morning called Pain Free that will give hope to anyone living with pain. You can listen to it over the Internet. Check out the website Egoscue.com for more information. Sunny Graff ----- Original Message ----- >>I would also highly recommend Egoscue's book. I was recommended this book by someone on this list and it had made a world of difference. I have in turn recommended it to others who have sworn by it as well. One friend had nagging problems and went on to do video consulting with Egoscue. He offers it on the website, you send a tape, he sends more tailored exercises. I have arthritis in both shoulder AC joints, rotator issues as well as low back/hip problems from years of repetitive strain. Egoscue's stuff had made both problems incredibly more manageable. I continue to do his exercises daily. BTW, even if you don't have problems he has exercises that everyone should do>> --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Thats a good question, and in all seriousness I would like, any suggestions you might have. I think I was looking at an advisory board more like a board of directors, who in business quite often higher and fire ceo's and the sort, I know because I am a VP on a board for a transportation company and that's how we do things. And Tim is one of Remy's highest Rank, There may be more knowledgeable, but he is the rankiest ( if thats a word ). What might have been a good Ideal is if they would have caped Modern Arnis at 6th degree like one of the Karate organizations did after there instructor died. On the Crossada stuff I may teach some of the closing drills in Buffalo this summer, you can check it out and see what you think. I am glad you see where I am coming from as far as the no respect stuff, I tried for years to get the modern arnis people involved in Full Contact, and learning more of the traditional stuff, but so many of them were just to controlled by Remy and more motivated to kiss up to him hopeing he would appoint them some thing or what ever. And I agree, personally. What "original" art hasen't been changed. Guarenteed that a fighter will change his style if he gets hit. Well, I take that back, I'm not every fighter, just my own. Regarding the Sayoc discussion: Jut wanted to make disclaimer, that my original post says that I HEARD that Sayoc and Amok were the "thing" when it came to knife. I have not had the pleasure to train with T. Cris Sayoc or his group, YET. I have had the pleasure to meet Professor Tom Sotis(A title given to him by GT Leo Gaje, which he told me as soon as I called him Prof.) It was a pleasure to spar with him and learn his method of presenting the material. As far as the current discussion of Sayoc name, and what not, I have no interest and withdraw myself from that part of the conversation. Call it what you may, believe what you believe, and learn from what you study. Me, I'm more interested in the effectiveness. And, I doubt that the Dog Brothers would be bringing in knife training that was not along the lines of workeable. Again, though, I haven't had the privledge, YET. Though I will. ;) I met Ron England from the Derobio school. He is a hell of a guy, and a man that trained with GM Braulio Pedoy for a long time. Twas very interesting. I'm noticing things in relation to KK and a certain other fighter on this digest, and I'm wondering...I'll talk to Dogzilla about it. Keep Swinging, Chad W. The arts get exposure and a guy gets to make a living doing what he loves and thats bad?? Seems like the people that have a tough time keeping their storefront schools open could learn some much-needed marketing skills from this guy. Beats pumping gas. If your worried about the arts getting watered down, I wouldn't sweat it. The people that aren't serious about learning the FMA's will just bail out and go to cardio- kickboxing anyway when the training gets too heady. Time weeds out the weekend warriors.
