All the pieces look to be hand made and I feel that the quality is very good. You won't beat their prices for traditional handmade knives and swords. Some pieces come sharper than others but you can always sharpen them as you like. The espada y daga set that I got from Kris was razor sharp out of the box while the barong was not quite as sharp. The sharpness thing is not an issue for me as I can understand where a beginner may not be totally comfortable moving at full speed and power with a very long and extremely shape blade. And again their carbon steel can be sharpened to fit your needs. They use a 5160 carbon steel so they can rust but if you keep some silicone or wd-40 on the blade you won't have a problem. For me the Barong has a great feel and the stylized shape of the kamagong handle is comfortable and easy to hold onto at full speed. In my opinion you will be hard pressed to find traditional blades for the price and quality that you get from Kris Cutlery. The owner of Kris, Cecil Quirino, is also a wealth of knowledge on filipino weapons, particularly weapons from the Sulu area. His father, Carlos, is/was the author of the highly accliamed book Filipinos at War; The Fight for Freedom from Mactan to EDSA. The translation of the kali to the ground! Could somebody elaborate on their own experience? If not on the Digest then e-mail me personally/privately. I am having a pretty hard time with becoming as proficient with the ground/dumog stuff as I have been with the stick and knife. I can work some of the takedowns with a pretty good flow, but after that things get kinda sketchy. I would welcome any input. Gord P.s. I'm having a hard time deciding between KC's barongs, pinuti and the espada y daga set. They all look like good choices to me. As far as sharpness goes, I agree - I can touch up the edge if needed. There's a reason it's so expensive. He does exceptional work. I haven't seen his kerambit in person, but I'd imagine it, too, is exceptional. I'd imagine that Benchmade or another company will pick up the design and start mass producing them and they'll be cheaper. But, then again, they may not. I liked it A LOT and plan on eventually buying the production version, which is going to be a lot less expensive and just as nice. It should be coming out in a couple months or so, according to the folks at EKI. They've also released a selection of Zytel handled, lockback folders - the "Hard Wear" series -, priced to be competitive with the Spyderco Endura and the like (between $50 and $60 retail).
