First, there is only one Serrada > curriculum. Incorrect... There may now only be one CSE curriculum, but never think there are not multiple versions or variations of Serrada. Gm Angel's Serrada changed and evolved over the years. Perhaps it hasn't during the relatively short period of time you and some of your instructors have been involved with it. Others have also taken it to the next or another level. Thus variations do exist, whether you like that or not. Just a fact. I am a Eskrima Filipino Stickfighting practitioner, and I am looking to marry this year. I am a simple, clean (no illness), phyiscally strong, intelligent person. I have taught Eskrima for over 10 years. I was never married, or have any children. I am looking to meet maybe a Filipino or Indonesian or American woman who is young, slim, healthy, and of cold temperament. She must have vision as I want her to be involved in the learning and promotion of the Philippine Martial Arts. She must have stamina. I need a woman who will give me at least FOUR children. I want to create my descendents in Eskrima. The prospective wife must want to have babies and establish a household. You can be from any religion but must believe in one single GOD. You must pray at least one time a day, and be willing to offer prayer to God for guidance before and after the martial arts class that you will be involved in in the study and teaching of Eskrima. I am not a argumentive or quarreling person. It is easy to get along with me. I will teach you for 2 months my style of Eskrima so I can see if you are a person of perception and stamina, and vice versa. I do not date or have sex with you during this time. Then, if we like each other, we can proceed to marriage. For my photo see http://www.geocities.com/newsreader99/serradalist.html Send email to newsreader99@yahoo.com and your photo. I promote all martial arts, regardless of any system, as all are subsets of the same vibration and lead us all to the acknowledgement of a Creator (God). --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ld470@aol.com Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 10:28:10 EDT Subject: Re: [Eskrima] RE:Injuries To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi all, I had a " wrist cyst " a few years ago. My mother told me that when she was younger they were referred to as " bible cysts" because doctors would actually smash it with a heavy book , such as a bible. So I took my injury to Dr. Mom, and she beat the hell out of ut with various heavy books to no avail. I later found that the magic of the martial arts would be the cure at a Jun Fan JKD seminar in October of '99. It was the first East Coast Jun Fan JKD Conference hosted by my instructor, Guru Don Edwards and featured the legendary Richard Bustillo, Ted Wong and Chris Kent. It was during a trapping training session being taught by Chris Kent that the cyst was dismissed. My partner and I were doing a simple Pak Sou drill and "voila" the cyst got smashed! So my advice to anyone suffering from an annoying "wrist cyst" would be to train in some extensive trapping and locking, and dismiss the cyst. I know it was a long story to get to a simple point, but it was a fun one to tell. good luck! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello again, First of all is not my place to stop any argument here, but let me raised a little question on this on going thread. First: Targeting Elbow and Hips with stick, is not a bad idea at all, as long as you can hit it, and depend how hard you can hit it also the hip. Did you ever experience getting bump into a corner of table with your hip, that was pain full. Did you ever experience getting hit in your funny bone in your elbow, you loss power immediately you would loss strength on your hands. If stick hit you on this target is already damaging techniques think about if blade was used to this techniques, I telling you I have to agreed that this is target a good target as long as you can hit this target. Seconds: In regards of Serrada weapon, I would never undermined any serrada player, I know that they know what to do to their weapon, short or long, thick stick or thin stick or even blade. In my experience, you can used as short as you preferred, and applied the same techniques performed in much longer weapon. I guess the question is, how good the practitioner whom is utilizing this weapon? Because come to reality, is not the system anymore, on the end of the road is a personal and individual capabilities are the one being test. Skilled vs. weapons not pride and passion to the system. I am hoping that I can reach every single Escrimador and Arnisadores, not to practice the art for your system or organization, practice the art for yourself. Get out to your egg shell and wonder the worlds around you, then probably you can see a better view of Escrima and FMA in general. We may insistently remind them about the legal ramifications on Lethal Use of force, and the responsibility that they have as practitioners of the Martial arts. But, it is up to the student’s judgment as to when they decide to defend themselves and with how much force. Drinking does not help this matter at all as the impairment of judgment is significantly impacted. This is no different than a person who learns to drive, yet once getting their license starts to drink and becomes a menace on the road. Was the driving instructor at fault for teaching him? (great post by Steve Lamade!) In regards to the the reference to the “Hunted” this has no place in a discussion of this type. Even the material that was contained in the movie did not contain a perineum thrust. Please don't assume a movie had anything to do with an act of an individual in that case. There is double stick taught in the video. IMHO there are important differences between the two. Amongst them are: KK has active kicking. For most FMA systems kicking is rare and low only. Mid and Hi kicks are considered quasi-suicidal. In KK they are SOP. In single stick fighting virtually every FMA fighter I have ever seen almost always keeps the same foot as the stick hand forward. The only exception that comes to mind was Tom Meadows. In KK single stick the "off lead" (e.g. a righty fighting with the stick in right hand and left foot forward) is quite common. One steps through-- either forwards or backwards. In double stick, in most FMA systems there is weaving ("siniwali" -- did I use this right GP Abon?) whereas in KK there is none. In most FMA systems there is a roof block, but not in KK. Response " Many thanks for the post, this is what I was looking for. Can you give any details on the blades as well. I'm very curious. A few things that I find interesting though. We stress low kicks however practice high kick very frequently and try to fit them in our sparring. I fight with my stick in the opposite(rear) hand quite often. I am frankly surprised by this observation. I never give it much thought. I guess I do tend to favor the lead hand/foot but I would guess it to be about 60/40 depending on what I want to work on and how my opponent is fighting. If he is working distance I will tend to work stick in the lead hand but if he is fighting close I will often switch feet. Again, I never give it much direct thought and don't let it limit me. Comments anyone?
