Started looking like there would be some longevity to this contract I'm on, so I began searching for an FMA instructor in the area. But I keep coming up dry so I began broadening my search and checking into the local schools (Hapkido, Judo, etc.) For whatever reason, it finally dawned on me to search the Eskrima List Archives. From those archives posts, I got the name and phone number of a local instructor. The number was an old number, but using freeality.com reverse lookup I got the name of the school. From there, a google search on the name, and I had the website and new phone number of: Chinese Boxing & Fitness in Enola, PA -- just outside Harrisburg, PA http://www.chineseboxing.net The instructor teaches Arnis, and he trains under GM Ernesto Presas. Persistence paid off. Thanks again to all who post, and the servers that retain the archives. It is at the printers now. Will have the cover on the site soon. Talked to the Publisher and he regrets not getting 6 issues a year out like originally planned, but times have been tough. Anyway just letting you know. --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2003 12:38:39 -0400 From: Khalkee@netscape.net To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Blades & Drink Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net The first Himalayan guruthat I "paid attention to" for awhile once told me "This is the business plane." The first Chinese kung fu master that I trained with once told me: "Whatever you doing, you always being business." Good start over 30 years ago from both. My advice re: alcohol is have it at home or somewhere where you can stay put and not woryy about what someone might do to you while you're asleep :-) Covers a lot of ground, 'ey? Essentially, out-n-about = out in the place of business, out in the business world ... a place where we may have to "take care of business". To compromise ourselves in ways that diminish our ability to TCB out in the world is self-defeating. In some situations it would be suicide. I'm not a "drinker", but I do like the Plum wines from Asia and the Cherry wines from Scandinavia :-) A few sips and I'm smilin' Jack ... but never outside home. Hey, that's just my $0.02 discipline. Might make a diff for somebody out there to think about it. Mitakuye Oyasin. Be well, Mik ... and oh yeah, elbows and hips are excellent targets ;-) __________________________________________________________________ Try AOL and get 1045 hours FREE for 45 days! http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/index.adp?375380 Get AOL Instant Messenger 5.1 for FREE! I'm there to have a good time . I think situational awareness is the key . Be humble, leave before the fight starts and you've already neutralized the threat without having to draw a weapon. As for carrying a knife. I always carry one at all times ever since I was a kid. But my reason for carrying one wasn't for self defense it was utilitarian. The use of a knife as a weapon was really never presented to me until I was exposed to martial arts. I guess what I'm saying is don't go looking for the fight. Go have a good time. Drink your beer and like Jon said Leave your attitude at home. Just my two cents.
