You would think that the larger person >would win, all things being equal, I think you overlooked the point made, which was, for equally-skilled opponents, the larger person will generally win due to greater range and strength. This skill includes technique and strategy. I think the statement implies that size is not included in skill. With size comes a drop in muscular efficiency because strength increases with the cross-sectional area, not volume, of a muscle. With size comes an increase in inertia and thus a decrease in dexterity. Generally, a smaller person has greater dexterity. >And yes, I have taken out people much bigger than myself, some who have been training for much longer than I. But in general, would you agree that you have a harder time with larger people? --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Thu, 26 Jun 2003 16:20:03 -0400 From: EMcguckin@aol.com To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] GM Cacoy seminar Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi Ray, I read your post and it looks like you live on the East Coast. I know that the East Coast runs a long way but I was wondering if you of any good schools in the New York City area. I would like to find a FMA School/Instructor in either NYC, Bronx or Lower Westchester. I had received some advice from some of the other memners of this board (My Thanks To You All)and am still looking. Any advice you have would be appreciated. I recently learned that my mother has taken ill. So I'm heading back there tomorrow AM. We had scheduled a couple of seminars during the second week of July during a previously planned trip there. But now that may not occur given I'm now heading out much sooner than expected. Or we may just change the date, if that works for folks. For more details, updates, changes, please drop me a line and I'll forward on those hosting the events. Thanks.
