Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi everyone, my first mail to the list, I'd like to ask if anyone knows a place within EU (for customs reasons) that sells raw rattan at varying lengths and diameter, even more preferably in Finland (where I live)? I'd like make my own sticks and experiment with different tehcniques for hardening/burning them but it seems to be almost impossible to get rattan in here. I've tried almost every possible place within Finland, but I don't know if it's available anywhere else in Europe. - Marko --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Dave Huang" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Thu, 03 Jul 2003 13:26:46 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Sifu Richard Bustillo in Sacramento, CA Aug 2-3 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello everyone: Sifu Richard Bustillo will be in Sacramento in August: International Martial arts Boxing with SIFU RICHARD BUSTILLO Saturday & Sunday, August 2 & 3, 2003 Lineršs Kempo-Karate (916) 456-4975 5706 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95820 JEET KUNE DO Saturday August 2, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM Bruce Lee's basic footwork, hand/foot speed to closing the gap to trapping, grappling and training concepts to enhance the three combat ranges below. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I don't think that anyone was suggesting that the bigger the fighter the better. What's essential is acknowledging that dealing with a larger opponent in close-quarter personal combat is different from dealing with an opponent of similar or lesser stature/mass/etc. It's simple physics and once we've been impacted by a strike from someone who outweighs us by 100 pounds we know the significance of dealing with a larger opponent differently. Here's a freebie foray: The legs of a taller opponent are (IMHO) the best targets to blast before you heist your keister out of the situation. I won't bother with details, just check it out ... how easily/quickly can you take out their legs before they hit you with an upper limb tool? No one should just roll over & die. My teacher once said: "Anyboddy who let somebody kill them is crazy." :-) PIL SUNG baby (never give up). Mitakuye Oyasin. Be well, Mik BTW, re: Uchina (Okinawa), the people of Okinawa are darker than the Japanese due to Okinawan (Uchinan) Malay ancestry. __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network.
