Subtle advertisment ahead! Our DBMA Training Camp starts tomorrow and our DB Gathering of the Pack is on Sunday-- details at www.dogbrothers.com ) allows me to follow up on the "What's a small person to do?" thread. One of the very best "little big men" of whom I know is Dale "Island Dog" Franks. What brings this to mind is that (Beware! Subtle advertisement ahead!)as we have been selecting fights to go into our DVD just how many of his were under consideration. What does he bring to the table? My eye sees the following: 1) a good broad base in Inosanto Blend. He fights well at all ranges in single, double and staff. 2) a good level in BJJ 3) substantial NHB experience as well as DB fighting. 4) despite his age (5 years younger than me I think, which would put him at 45-6 now) he is always in superb aerobic shape. He is never reluctant to set a quick pace that many larger fighters are reluctant to match. 5) a favorite quality of mine: excellent ambidexterity. Even when he fights with one stick, he often shifts hands. This bilateralism also manifests in his footwork. I think the zoning potential of bilateralism may be of considerable benefit to the smaller fighter. 6) Clean DB fighting spirit. 7) He doesn't seem to think of himself as small. They have to generalize if they are to prioritize (sorry, sounded like Johnny Cochran). I agree that points are missed in the process, but there are more important issues to deal with than knives, weird fish and guns. And no, I dont care to get into a gun control debate. I prefer more easily resolved issues such as abortion and religion. I like guns, I dont like gun nuts (not enthusiasts...nuts. BIG difference). They remind me of Star Trek fans...unbalanced You seem too angry to own a gun Kurt. If psychological evaluations were required for gun ownership, I suspect many gun related problems would be solved. -Steve Kohn --__--__-- Message: 6 From: Kel620@aol.com Date: Wed, 9 Jul 2003 22:59:47 EDT To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net CC: tenrec@avcorner.com Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Custom Leather Sheaths Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Try Chas Clements or Tree Stump Leather. http://www.chasclements.com/sheaths.htm http://www.treestumpleather.com/ --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
