To view some stuff he;s learning see the highlights visit www.kalideleon.com/techniques.html and click on the camera icon -Guro Jun in Kali demo for Vin Diesel. Also Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje founder of Pekiti Tirsia Kali and Guro Jun de Leon founder of Kali De Leon Methodology in unison will be conducting a joint advanced Mastery seminar in Toronto (Missisauga), Canada on AUGUST 23 and 24 2003 www.kalideleon.com/events.html for more info. Both men were together teaching the Joint U.S. and Philippine Marines and Special Forces in the Inter-operability excercises 2003 last FEB-MAR. Pekiti Tirsia Kali's combat blade tactics has continually been requested to be demonstrated and taught to the U.S. Froces deployed in the Philippine islands of Luzon and now in Mindanao. It is the official fighting art of the Philippine Force Recon Battalion (FRBn) the combat tested Marines. Here is part of a letter received from a FRBn Officer. Dear Douglas, I'm LtCol Jojo CENABRE the former CO of the Force Recon Bn.I was replaced by Maj PARRENO last Apr 03.I'm now the Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs of the Hqs Phil. Marine Corps in charge of the future of the Corps. First, if you could go to PMC network you'll find that are there unit insignias or symbols at the official webpage. The Force Recon is represented by a black and gold crest with a parachute silhoutte, a knife in the middle. When you click on this you'll have the FRBn unit history. The history itself still needs some refining especially the officers who became COs of this unit; nonetheless, it would suffice your need to know about the unit. We,the Marines and Recon Marines, are a special unit. We are simply the best.We don't do trying our best, the best is our way of life. This is the reason why every Marine who undergoes Recon Course is no greenhorn in combat, they are already seasoned warriors and Recon will hone them more for missions impossible. Every Marine is a damn lethal and most cost effective "dog of war".So, you won't be surprised to find them bringing anything they think good for killing bad guys the fastest way.In combat we don't want to be in the position of asking ourselves why I haven't brought enough weapons or ammunitions. We hate to blame any Marines or ourselves for being sloth, but we are are not maniacs kabayan Our Recon Marines have fought the CPP/NPAs, MNLF, MILF, syndicate criminals, and the putchists(AFP rebels). And we do established our reputations by our successes in combat. But the more bloody ones are those fought in Mindanao against the Moros. Please don't be overwhelmed with the mystic of their valor or the tales of their bolos, kris, or whatever. By tradition or culture, the Moros bring with them exotic but terribly good bladed weapons for whatever purpose that would serve them best.In the jungle you dont cut trees or vines using guns,I hope you get what I mean. So that in combat when we ran out of ammunitions we or they continue the battle using bladed weapons. Juramentados are bygones. In fact, they went berserk or intentionally do the suicide ritual against hapless and unsuspecting civilian Christians, and not against a well armed soldier or adversary. It was a dastardly and cowardly act at all.Well, in combat anybody can do a suicide act. Suicide is not in itself a display of valor, most often it is borne of desperation and hopelessness Hand to hand combat was formally made part of the unit training in the Recon as early as its inception. When I and then 1LT ECARMA came from our training from the US Rangers in 1988,being the commander then I made the hand to hand combat a regular activity.I am a Cebuano and a "doce pares" student,a weightlifter, judo-karate, boxing disciple before I went to PMA in 1978. So, when the Pikiti was introduced to the FRBn during the time of then Maj ECARMA we fully appreciated it and accepted it as our own distinct marial art.But of course meron talaga pilosopo,di mawala yan sa pinoy. I guess the Pikiti was introduced to the FRBn in 1996 or 1997, and the rest afterwards pursue the development of the art to each and every Recon Marine, and other Marines. One thing about the Pikiti kabayan, it is the only Filipino art that gives emphasis to bladed weapons as a method of instruction. It is just like training with live ammunitions. You don't fool along with it, totoo yan e! There were several instances already that the Pikiti was introduced to the US Marines during exercises in the Phil., maybe twice or thrice. And they were positive about it,and believe it - di pambobola yan kapatid ha. Practically, the Pikiti is the official martial art of the Force Recon BN. Nobody mentions Pikiti without the Recon along with it,whether civilians or miltary, local or foreign. The standard weapon of the Recon was used to be the shorter version of M16A1, M177 or baby armalite. But since the AFP is no longer manufacturing said weapon, the battalion is now issued with the improved version of M16A1.We aren't actually issued with edged impact weapon, we buy them personally. At dahil maliit sahod, kahit ano local edged weapon basta't strong and worthy pwede na.Anyway the skills are already implaced individually. I hope I'm able to reinforce some points to your querries kabayan. Please feel free to email me directly to anything that concerns the Phil. Marine Corps, particularly, its future and modernization for this is my job. By the way, do you have a pit bull kabayan? God bless you. LtCol JOSE JOHRIEL M. CENABRE PN(M) Despite modern day firearms , bladed encounters are a reality resulting in fatalities in both sides of the fence in Mindanao. When I was there last Feb I saw pictures of a village of decapitated bodies of Men , women and children. Make no mistake, the enemy uses this to their advantage to try to demoralize you. I salute the U.S. Forces that are helping the Philippine forces combat terrorism in SouthEast Asia. Just thought that I would let you know that the FMA is actively being used in todays modern world by todays modern warriors. Remember 9-11. The Gathering was both inspiring and enlightening. All the fighterts fough with heart and I commend all of them for demostrating thier skills as well as thier passions for the arts. The "tribe" mentality showed that even with all the systems/styles out there, we could all come together as one. I look forward to the next one in November ( I think ). Maybe someone can elaborate on the highlights of the day. Guro Crafty??? For me personally was the girl that took on a guy twice he size and fought very well. Also was last fight of TOP DOG !!! The engagements,as you put it, were a great training concept an recommended. I'm not stupid and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're not either. Maybe I didn't make my point clear about the weapon issue, I'll try again. What I was trying to say was this........we train for years, hours a day, repetition after repetition to quick draw our blades, make our cuts and either walk away or finish the job. We are trained to do this as a reflex. We train our body to react automatically. I know this because, I've been practicing Arnis for 12 years. As an instructor I've seen students say "wow, I didn't even think about moving...I just moved". My point is this, it would be a shame if by reflex we cut a person who could have been dealt with by other means. Some students don't always have the best judgment. Was your judgment good dealing with the skinheads? I think it was. No one has the right to lay their hands on you but, some people won't THINK before they stir your guts with a six inch piece of steel. After the cut is made there is no taking it back. Sometimes deadly force is needed and justified (by police or a jury) and that is why I also carry a blade. I love the arts of the blade. I just know that there is alot of disturbed people out there learning some of the same stuff. ===== **JASON COUTURE** __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! "One more chance" with bad people often leads to one more tragedy. I suspect Ted Bundy could have persuaded a screener he was indeed a swell guy. Charles Whitman, John Hinckley and Colin Feurgeson hadn't done anything illegal before they committed their crimes. Therein lies the problem. At least in the United States, ya kinda have to commit a crime and be convicted before you get locked up, watched and your rights taken away. No Department of Pre-Crime--well, not yet anyway. > It can of course be argued that a car could also cause damage > in the wrong hands.
