I also had a class mate who did what your doing and he died of bone cancer, he also kicked a wing chun wooden dummy. I spoke to his doctor (who was at the time also my doctor) and he said whilst he could not prove hitting his shins with sticks and rolling them with a coke bottle probably contributed to his death, that was his best bet. Now there are plenty more people on the list who have better medical knowledge than me but my take on this is its not worth the risk. If your doing empty hands just kick the regular Thai pads and bags. In kick boxing a lot of pain can be over come in a match which stops you in training. If your doing stick fighting learn to move your leg out of the way. If your shins do take a dink in training, afterwards rub them away from you for about twenty minutes as this seems to help. In your mind as you rub down your shin you think of your shin as a blade which your sharpening. This seems to help when you kick people as well. When I was training hard six days a week I was dropping people with shin kicks but it always hurt after a couple of rounds. This is what I have always done and even now when I am only training twice a week for fun, I am still putting dents in the young bucks shins. So rather than hitting your shin with sticks do an extra round on the heavy bag or sparring. All the best with your training and if you what more details drop me an email or ask on here. Start lightly and gradually increase the pressure. I feel like it hurt much less and it evened the conditioning over my whole shin. Eventually it even changed the shape of my shin bone to be more pointed (weird but true). I make a habbit of doing it while I watch TV or talk on the phone. Once your legs are nice and tough try, as a party trick, to convince people that you have a fake leg as you beat it with various hosehold object. :P -Nat __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
