I don't think the FMAs are any worse than most other arts for fitness. Have you seen most karate/TKD guys? But some few arts (Muay Thai, etc) are probably better, simply because the skill training often takes a backseat to conditioning right from the get go. Wrestling is often like this as well. The best fitness routine is what the fitness nuts follow - a few days per week of pure aerobic stuff, a few days of real resistance training, and some flexibility stuff. Aerobics instructors are in much better shape on average than MA teachers. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray Terry Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Keeping in shape To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Wed, 13 Aug 2003 07:47:31 -0700 (PDT) Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > pratice of FMA. It seems you may be able to stay in shape by just doing Judo or Taekwondo or Hapkido or BJJ as they -tend- to stress the body and the heart far more than does FMA. Not that I will ever give up teaching FMA, it is my favorite. But we should show our students more. IMHO. Some typoes should remain! Also, its great working the sticks while doing some aerobics work with benches or, dare I say, the step of the aerobics studio. Does wonders for the nervous system. I will probably see a Kalicardio class starting up soon. Remember, you heard it here first. Gumagalang, Gord --------------------------------- Post your free ad now! Yahoo! She will be okay now. I agree with you to this point. But we should all be positive minded. We should be open minded and welcome some ideas from others. Who knows, maybe our ego are the only one holding us back. As Eskrimadors, one of the fundamental that I treasure is positive mind. I always put my self in the positive side, no regrets of decision I made, mistake s will occured sometime, un-expectedly, but if you already judge it negatively chances are it will turn to negative. Before I enter the ring during my matches, my mind is set to win, as I enter the ring, I feel I already won the battle. I won the battle becaused I over come my fear, now I am facing my self and my opponents. Beleive it or not, I never feel comportable like this since I put focus on positive. > > Some may not experience problems from the stress they put their bodies under > just as some that smoke a pack a day may not get lung cancer. At 84 you can tell he > has pain, even tho he can still perform VERY well with a stick or knife. > Yet it is pain that he has well earned from his 77 years of training. > > Ray Terry > rterry@idiom.com In regards of GM Cacoy Canete, I respect the old man, I am sure he still can perform the stick and dagger. But like I said, I would not offer the "Hilot" treatment if is bad for you. But remember to be positive mind, the reciever should be in positive mode to recieves a positive energy from the healer. I am sure I will earned more pain, but I have to be positive on it. I think that will help me more to motivate my self that negative though. "What if" is avoidable word to used it will turn your focus to negative result. To those of you e-mail me in regards of "Hilot" since is more than 27 people who e-mail me, it will take time for me to answer all of the question, so please be patient on me if you dont recieved a response yet, I will guaratee you, I will answer them so please accept my apology.
