Nowhere legally anymore. Lignum Vitae was declared an endangered species years ago. With good reason. The stuff grows incredibly slowly, has had most of its habitat destroyed and was driven nearly to extinction by people selling exotic hardwoods. There are very good alternatives. A few years back Aikido Today did an analysis of several dozen woods' impact strength. Ash was good. Osage Orange (a trash tree in much of the Southwest) was VERY good. Far and a way the best was impact grade hickory. Nothing else even comes close including the exotics. >Also, I >once saw an ad in Brigade Quartermasters for a "Blackthorn >Gentleman's Walking" made of >Blackthorn Root. Anyone know what kind of wood this is or had >experience with this? It's the rootball and trunk of a hawthorn sapling and has been used as a thwacker for centuries. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray Terry To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net (Eskrima) Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2003 09:23:06 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Eskrima] Safe Labor Day Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net To those in the USA, have a safe and fun Labor Day long weekend.
