IMHO you are fooling yourself (Q) --__--__-- Message: 1 Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2003 20:41:31 -0700 (GMT-07:00) From: Q To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] IMHO you are fooling yourself Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net "" So, once again, I ask you; can I be a good fighter without hard contact or am I just fooling myself? -Nat"" Nat, Sorry you are fooling yourself. Unless you are a really special individual you either need to fight to learn fighting or you need to develop and use multiple training method to give you the tools to put together what you think is fighting. Keeping pace with the heavy hitters is nothing unless they are hitting you heavy. The key is not whether you can deliver in like kind but whether you can weather their storm. Many a good martial artist has fallen apart once the tempo and contact pick-up. It is amazing how bad you can look once someone else is upsetting your game with just a bit more power. Your emphasis in training needs to be how to neutralize his power and amplify your power. This is done with superior timing, rhythum, and control of distance. How much power he can deliver or how much power you can handle will change your timing, rhythum, and upset your base changing how you control the distance. Regards, Carlton H.
