I just wonder how often I need to be injured to learn my lesson and keep it learned."" Nat: IMO you are absolutely correct and on target. You don't need brain trauma on every workout. You need to be able to keep firmly in mind all the aspects of what fighting "may be" as learned through your personal training method. Some students only need to be taught once and others need more repetition. The ones who stay longer in the art usually are better learners or unchallenged individuals because their bodies still work. I know some phenomenal martial artists who were unstopable in their day but now even wimpy me can stop them cold a few decades later. With experiance and good training you still need a good body to implement so protect it! Sometimes wimps like me last a long time in the arts and actually get pretty good as contemporaies around us destroy themselves. We never get picked to represent the art or the school thus never get hurt or challenged. With perserverance we learn and can actually reach pretty high levels in the arts. With enough time even a bad investment can look pretty good. Regards, Carlton H.
