My friend Cecil Quirino, of Kris Cutlery, makes (or used to) frequent trips back to the RP to look for old barongs, kampilans, keris, etc. Esp in the Sulu area. On one of these trips he had a guide/bodyguard that had "done the deed". During some downtime he requested the guide/bodyguard and a local "trained fighter" to do a little role play. Who would be able to kill the other. Now I do not recall how "kill the other" was defined as we know that it is rather easy to get killed while in the process of killing, but... In the first two attacks the experienced killer got in without much of a problem. After that the trained fighter was able to fairly easily counter his opponent. Moral of the story.?.?. You decide. I've been hit with an oak stick at full force and was able to keep going, and it is much easier to disarm than a knife is. -Carlo --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Steven Lefebvre" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Thu, 09 Oct 2003 16:59:52 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] Giron Escrima/Arnis seminar Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello Everyone, Another great training opportunity! If I am in this situation, and I have no where to go, either one weapon is okay for me to have. If I got the stick, then I will used the stick techniques against to his knife weilding techniques. If I got the knife, then I will used the knife techniques against his stick techinques. Used both weapon defensively and offensively. In final question, how comfortable are you to the techniques that we practice over and over? Ask yourself, are you ready or am I ready to face this scenario?, Would you think I/you will survive to this challenge? Well, before answering this few question try to assimilate this to your body. Let him know the situation, used a minamal protection, but used wooden knife too or rubber knife/ stick used the foam but not to soft to have the stopping power still. As Filipino Martial Artist, I urge you to generalized your training, if one techniques answer it all I would never practiced drills for a long hours anymore, to getting used to the techniques. As a Filipino Martial Artist, i also want to point it out that the stick movements is transferable to the knife movements and then the last sort is the same movements of the combat hand movements. Filipino Martial arts is an art of Combat designed for Long range fighting, which is utilized long weapon, Medium which can utilized shorter weapon, and Closed Combat which utilized the every single part of the body with or without weapon (hand, foot, elbow, head, shoulder, knee etc.). The only thing I will guarantee, my only goal is survive and to do whatever it take to be the one remain standing till the end of the combatant. I hope I add some enlightment to your training. Always keep in mind you should trained 99.9% percent winner instict, rather that 50/50%. Avoid being over confident also like other said there techniques is guaranteed 110% at the time, you always have to leave room for progression and mistake. I suppose I should have added more details but it was a spur of the moment thing. Stick( 30in) Knife (Kbar) If anyone is disarmed he can get both....lol ok lets make it interesting...its only 5 min till the Police arrive. But im gonna assume he is well trained, cant take the chance of being wrong.... can you?If you are correct great, but if you are wrong and he is trained,,,uhaooo. So therefore I go with the stick. >From: "Joseph Camins" >Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >To: >Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Re:Stick and knife >Date: Thu, 9 Oct 2003 07:33:57 -0700 > >I'd grab the knife (3 inches or more.) The cable channel Fox Sports World will be showing all 48 matches, including every single New Zealand All Blacks games. The team always performs the Haka before every match. Check Fox's webpages for the schedule of when the All Blacks are playing. That's the easiest and quickest way to see it. I love to watch them, but it doesn''t stop me from hoping England finally takes the cup this year! So you could come perhaps with your wife, have the FMA-Festival, make 5 days of sightseeing in Germany/Europe and then have another high class Modern Arnis seminar. We would really enjoy to have also some visitors from the US and other countries participating at the this festival. See under http://www.martialtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=679 for a review of the first festival. It will be a real deal. An experience of a lifetime. Make new friend in Europe and come to the 2nd FMA-Festival to Germany. Hope to see you there. If you have any questions, don´t hesitate to write or send me an e-mail to datu@modernarnis.de Dieter Knüttel Datu of Modern Arnis Co-Organizer of the 2nd FMA-Festival in Germany --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
