Doesn't australia have some of the strictist gun laws in the world? (I thought I'd heard the rumor that most guns were rounded up and destroyed?). What are your options for "force believed to be necessary"? -Steve --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 10:49:08 -0400 From: Khalkee@netscape.net To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Dirty Knives LOL Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > I don't want lose a self-defense case because I shot > someone with my new Glock when I could of easily done > the same thing with my > old, nasty S&W and got the jury on my side.(LOL) Post was re: KNIVES, period. Re: Other comments ... none address the issue of carrying an illegal knife and using it to injure another person. Addressing situations wherein police were not involved does not address the situations wherein police were involved, nor does it address the outcomes. so the advice holds ... if you carry a specialty/combat knife that exceeds the legal proscriptions for concealed knives and you use it in self defense you run an incalculable risk of paying an undesirable price\ for having done so. That's reality, especially in a culture where use of the knife is considered "dirty". If you doubt it, test it. Having done so, it is very likely that your laughter will fade. Lockup can be very sobering. "Mitakuye Oyasin" ("To/For all my relations.") is not a name, it's more like an affirmation. My name is Mik. Mitakuye Oyasin. Good read. I'm sending a copy to state legislators, reminding them of our yet-to-find-the-floor-of-the-senate Citizen's Right to Self Defense bill. Its 250% higher in value compared to how they were selling it before (rattan to furniture makers). We are building our database of would-be ARNIS stick buyers. Do you know people who are: a. PE teachers of schools teaching Arnis classes b. Arnis schools (martial arts schools) c. Arnis instructors d. Arnis exporters (long shot to) :-) e. Groups teaching Arnis (or providing Arnis sticks) to Barangay Tanods We are also looking ways to touch base with schools who have ARNIS classes as one of their PE subject. Other than the Lynn Schaefer (sp ?) incident in Massachusetts some years ago, I wasn't aware of a preponderance of bad case law in home invasion scenarios. Spirit and letter of the castle doctrine still obtain in most jurisdictions. I recently ordered a " Safe Keeper III" from coldsteel just to satisfy my curiosity. I have carried a tactical folder all my life but since I started training in FMA about two years now I realized that a conventional knife can be disarmed by someone well trained...I feel that a push dagger may be more practical as far as difficulty in being disarmed but limited in cutting and slashing techniques.
