IMHO, to many people look for a connection or > linage where there is none. This is fascinating... How could two countries be closely linked for several hundred years and -not- have a connection in their arts? It just doesn't work that way. Not saying that the highly effective Spanish schools influenced the FMAs, it may have very well be the other way round. But a study of sword and dagger with espada y daga shows a clear link, far more so than 'there are only so many ways to swing a sword and a dagger'. Comments? The only real drawback on the Panther II's is that the reverb from full contact Sinawali drills (if both are using poly) can cause some joint pain, and consequently, I would suspect a little nerve damage when overdone. Otherwise, like Larry said, they are virtually indestructible. On the other hand, if you're not going against another poly set, they will shred rattan quickly, not to mention knuckles and thumbs in free flow drills. I have found after using them for nearly 10 years that they have their time and place, but really only when you don't wish to sacrifice your favorite rattan to a hard hitter. Their weight makes them an excellent tool for solo training to build wrist and grip strenth. --Erol Weber, Cabales Serrada Escrima --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Rtrwv@aol.com Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2003 20:05:24 EDT Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Synthetic Sticks To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Yes, I use poly sticks exclusively. I spar at full speed and contact. They do pack a wallop and are what I am accustomed to now. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com.
