Regarding FMAM and reading last experiences from other subscribers to this list, I think I made a good decision when I decided not to subscribe nor send payment for old numbers of this magazine, even though in my country (Chile, South America) the practice of Filipino Martial arts is almost unknown so we don't have any good chance to buy sticks, books, magazines or anything related to FMA. We use self made sticks of a local variety almost similar to rattan, called "colihue", that breaks easily. This is our reality but we are enthusiastic so we use our imagination and also adapt part of our protective gears from other martial arts for full contact sparring . We rent some space in a local gym or go to a park for our practices. I had a similar and bad experience trying to buy a good Eskrima book from a known web page. When I saw the book in this web page, I contacted them in April, offering payment by Western Union. So I did, finally being able to send it to a person's name, not their company's name, because they didn't have an agreement with WU, so the need of a person's name to retrieve payment from their nearest WU Agency. After many e-mails, phone calls, etc. I finally decided (September) to retrieve the payment from WU, which I got except for their cost of sending money. When these people finally went to the agency to retrieve it, it was no longer available for them, of course. Maybe if they had done it months before, I would have the book in my hands now...another good example of having good things to offer but being incompetent to sell them. I have bought other things paying by the same way and it was quick, easy and secure. Good lesson for me, too. And I agree that this creates a very bad image for FMA. Thanks to Ray and all of you for having the chance of learning more from this list which I read every day. This is the first time I write and did it because I had something to say about these facts...otherwise I prefer to read and increase knowledge from you, too. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Mr. Mitakuye Oyasin, will you please stand up??? Here i go again ... read my friend. My name is "mik" ... "MIK". Mitakuye Oyasin is a Native American phrase roughly translated as "To/For all my relations." Some translate it as "We are all the same people" [Native American Intertribalism]. H'mm, when did being African-American or Native American recent or way back equal being a liberal? My family includes Caucasian, Asian, African, and native American ancestry. I voted for Bush, am a staunch conservative, and doubt if anyone can show that liberalism has been, is, or ever will be the champion of minority causes anywhere. Liberalism will support the right of the weirdest things in the society to do the freakiest things to the dearest members of our families after said weirdest finish glutting their psyches with don't-you-dare-touch-my-rapesite-porn. It might help to closely examine what liberalism truly means in this society. When I speak of liberalism, I am addressing those elements whcih will erode the rule of law. the advancement of human rights requires stauncher law applied equally across all strata of the society. For example, no liberal anti-gunner has the right to deny anyone the means to defend self, family and home ... but that's where some of the lines get drawn. Meanwhile said liberals may have bodyguards ... who carry guns ;-) Don't assume so much. My dad was a dark-skinned guy. My mom was a yellow-fair-skinned Asian-Caucasian-Indian-Afro-American. My son is half me, half Oglala Sioux. My grandson is all'o'that plus my daughter-in-law's half jewish, half Afro-some-other-blend (damned good looking little 2 year old if I say so m'self :-) No assumptions ovah heeyah hombre. 'Nuff said. Mitakuye Oyasin. (For all my relations ... that includes you) Be well, Dr. mik __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network. Such actions by legitimate authority brings out the dog in me. First let me ask if you have a chapter of the Dog Brothers in Baltimore, Maryland. If not how do I start one? ... A. Q.
